Job Description
Individualized Tutoring:
Provide one-on-one tutoring sessions for children with diverse learning needs, tailoring instruction to each student’s strengths and challenges. Use structured, multi-sensory literacy approaches—full training will be provided.
Assessment:
Complete assessments to determine each student’s reading level, strengths, and areas for growth. Monitor progress regularly and adjust instruction as needed.
Lesson Planning:
Create and deliver personalized lesson plans using a structured literacy framework. Incorporate multi-sensory and adaptive teaching strategies to support learning outcomes.
Progress Tracking:
Maintain clear records of student progress, noting improvements and areas for continued focus. Share updates with parents on a regular basis.
Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with parents and, when appropriate, other educators to support each student’s development.
Adaptability:
Stay current with effective teaching practices for literacy and learning differences, and adjust instructional methods as needed.
Motivation & Support:
Create a positive and encouraging learning environment. Support students through challenges while building confidence and celebrating progress.
Feedback:
Provide constructive feedback to students and their families, along with suggestions for reinforcing learning outside of sessions.
We are looking for Tutors with:
- Experience working with children. Experience in an educational or similar setting is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly share student progress and strategies with families.
- Empathy and a patient, supportive approach. The ability to connect with students who may face learning challenges is important for this role.
- Adaptability and an ability to tailor instruction to individual learners and apply a variety of teaching strategies.
- Strong organizational skills to manage lesson planning and track student progress effectively
Additional Assets (Not Required):
- Experience supporting students with learning differences or familiarity with structured literacy approaches is an asset. Comprehensive training will be provided.
- Backgrounds in education, psychology, or related fields are an asset but not required.
- Experience working with children in the foster care system or a knowledge of trauma-informed practice is an asset.
- Ability to tutor math as well (up to a high school level) is an asset but is not required.
Pay: $20.00-$21.00 per hour
