This is a full-time permanent position, with the opportunity to learn and grow. The successful candidate can expect a competitive base salary of $100,000-$110,000 annually, depending on experience.
Our competitive benefit plan includes extended healthcare and dental, and a Group Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) where employees are matched up to 7% of their contributions. Employees also receive three weeks paid vacation annually, as well as two paid personal days, and a paid birthday day off.

Position Overview
The Manager of Major Gifts will play a critical leadership role within the Greater Vancouver Food Bank’s Development Team, responsible for advancing and executing a comprehensive major gifts strategy that drives significant philanthropic revenue and deepens long-term donor and stakeholder partnerships. They will work closely with the Director of Philanthropy to lead on Major Giving ($25,000+) and Transformative Giving ($100,000+) across multiple giving streams.
The Major Gifts program is in a period of continued growth and development, with an increasing focus on expanding fundraising capacity, strengthening donor engagement, and supporting the organization’s long-term strategic priorities. As major gift fundraising continues to evolve, ongoing investment is being made in the systems, strategies, and relationships required to sustain and grow philanthropic support. The Manager, Major Gifts, contributes to the planning, implementation, and advancement of the program, helping to build organizational capacity and support the achievement of fundraising objectives over the long term.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive Major Gifts strategy aligned with GVFB’s organizational priorities, including capital campaigns and program growth.
- Shape and evolve the Major Gifts program infrastructure, including portfolio strategy, pipeline development, solicitation preparation, stewardship frameworks, and performance tracking.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to the Major Gifts team, fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Continue to develop and keep building compelling and innovative funding opportunities (programs, projects, and capital initiatives) to support major gift fundraising efforts.
- Establish annual and multi-year revenue goals and contribute to long-term income forecasting and campaign planning.
- Personally manage a portfolio of high-value major donors and prospects, focused on securing significant ($25,000+) gifts through strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Build and maintain a strong major gift pipeline for the department, ensuring continuous movement of prospects through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship stages.
- Lead and oversee the development of high-quality proposals, cases for support, and donor communications that align donor interests with GVFB’s impact.
- Proactively identify, research, and prioritize new major gift prospects whose philanthropic interests align with GVFB’s mission and priorities.
- Represent GVFB at events and in the community to raise awareness, cultivate partnerships, and expand the major gifts pipeline.
- Oversee accurate tracking of all donor interactions, proposals, and pipeline activity within Raiser’s Edge, ensuring data integrity and informed decision-making.
- Play a leadership role in capital campaign planning and execution, including prospect strategy, gift solicitation, and stewardship of campaign donors.
- Help build a culture of philanthropy across the organization, supporting leadership and volunteers in major gift engagement.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Philanthropy.
Personal Attributes and Core Skills
- Proven history of income generation including setting and exceeding goals, relationship management, planning and executing major solicitations, and pipeline development expertise across multiple Major Gift fundraising streams.
- Excellent relationship management skills and emotional intelligence, strong and effective people management skills with the ability to coach and mentor others.
- Excellent written and oral communication and networking skills.
- A mindset that is resilient, target-driven, proactive, and creative with an ability to cope with high-pressure projects and work environments and find solutions to problems when they arise.
- A passion for connecting donors to projects that resonate and demonstrating their impact.
- Experience of developing written applications, proposals and reports with the ability to quickly understand complex information and communicate it to non-experts.
- A self-starter who can work well independently with minimal direction.
- Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with hard deadlines.
- Applies an analytic perspective of fundraising and comfortable with analytical tools including Raiser’s Edge and Excel.
Qualifications and Experience
- 5+ years of experience with Major Gifts or equivalent in a nonprofit fundraising environment.
- 3+ years of experience in a people leadership role.
- Proven track record of successful fundraising experience in the nonprofit sector.
- Strong understanding and experience with nonprofit regulations, compliance and reporting.
- Knowledge of national standards of ethical fundraising best practices, policies, and related guidelines.
- Knowledge of emerging issues, trends, programs, and opportunities in fundraising, locally.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Experience with fundraising software, reporting and databases; Raiser’s Edge, iWave and ThankView experience is an asset.
- Experience with online fundraising platforms and software is required.
- Competency in reporting and data analysis is required.
