Position Overview

The First Cook is responsible for assisting the Executive Chef and Sous Chef in all aspects of food preparation, cooking, and presentation. You will work closely with the culinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality meals, maintain kitchen cleanliness, adhere to food safety standards, and create a memorable culinary experience for our guests.

Key Responsibilities

1. Food Preparation and Cooking

Prepare and cook a wide variety of menu items, including breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Follow standardized recipes and portion control guidelines to ensure consistency and quality.
Adhere to dietary restrictions and special requests to accommodate guests’ needs.
Work hotline stations during meal services pans, proteins, and hot appetizers.
Be comfortable safely using a variety of kitchen equipment like blenders, food processors, stand mixers, smokers, torches, etc.

2. Kitchen Operations

Collaborate with the culinary team to ensure smooth and efficient meal services.
Maintain a clean and organized workstation and area.
Assist in inventory management, including proper storage, rotation, and utilization of ingredients.
Monitor and record food temperatures to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Assist with ordering and receiving supplies as needed.

3. Teamwork and Communication

Work closely with the Executive Chef, Chef de Cuisines, Sous Chefs, and other kitchen staff to ensure effective, respectful teamwork and cooperation.
Communicate any issues, concerns, or suggestions to the Executive Chef.
Support and mentor junior kitchen staff members, providing guidance and training as needed.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

4. Guest Experience and Culture

Ensure all meals meet Ste. Anne’s four-diamond service standards in preparation and presentation.
Focus on quality, flavor, nutrition, and visual presentation in every dish.
Strive to exceed guest expectations through consistent excellence.

Job Requirements

Skills & Competencies

Proven experience as a Cook or Chef in a high-volume professional kitchen environment.
Culinary diploma or degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and culinary terminology.
Familiarity with dietary restrictions, allergies, and special diets.
Understanding of health and safety regulations and proper food handling practices.
Excellent time management, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure while maintaining composure and quality.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods.
Capable of lifting, carrying, and moving up to 20 kg.
Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and overhead movements required.

Scheduling Requirements

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Standard shifts are 8 hours with a 30-minute meal break.
Flexibility to adjust schedule based on operational needs.

Compensation & Benefits

Starting Hourly Wage: $22 - $24 per hour
Access to EAP at 3 Months
Access to Full Benefits at 900 Hours, maintaining a minimum average of 32 hours per week
