We are currently seeking a Casual Maintenance Worker to join our Environmental Services team. If you are hands-on, enjoy solving problems, and take pride in maintaining buildings and grounds, this opportunity may be the perfect fit.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Environmental Services Manager, the Casual Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks to support the safe and efficient operation of the Home. The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors while providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance activities throughout the Home.
- Complete minor mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, and building repairs.
- Assist with grounds maintenance, including grass cutting, landscaping, snow removal, and exterior upkeep.
- Operate maintenance equipment, tools, and machinery safely and effectively.
- Monitor building systems and report concerns related to the physical plant.
- Assist with monthly inspections, audits, and compliance activities as assigned.
- Maintain inventory and ensure proper use of maintenance supplies and equipment.
- Follow all health and safety, infection prevention and control, and emergency preparedness procedures.
- Respond to maintenance requests and support special projects as required..
Qualifications
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in building maintenance, facility maintenance, construction, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general repair practices.
- Experience operating hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade-related experience or certification considered an asset.
- Working at Heights, WHMIS, Health & Safety, or related certifications are considered assets.
- Experience in healthcare, long-term care, retirement living, or institutional maintenance is an asset.
Physical Requirements
This position involves frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, and working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Candidates must be comfortable working with tools, equipment, machinery, and maintenance-related materials.

Pre-Employment Requirements
Successful candidates will be required to provide:
- A current Police Vulnerable Sector Check .
- Proof of compliance with the Home's Immunization and Communicable Disease Surveillance Policy.
- Proof of a two-step TB test (or chest x-ray, if applicable) in accordance with Ministry requirements.
