WORDPRESS DEVELOPER

CONTRACT/FRELANCE

REMOTE (TORONTO)

The Job!

Our ideal candidate has strong technical skills, a proactive approach, and is a problem solver at heart. They enjoy working independently but can also collaborate and communicate effectively with team members and clients. Your responsibilities will include:

Custom development: Build bespoke WordPress themes and plugins from scratch, or modify existing ones to meet requirements.
Front-end and back-end integration: Develop responsive, pixel-perfect user interfaces based on Figma designs.
Performance and security: Optimize website speed, scalability, and security, implementing best practices for database management and code structure.
API and third-party integration: Integrate third-party tools, services, and APIs into the WordPress environment.
Maintenance and troubleshooting: Debug, maintain, and update websites, ensuring compatibility across browsers and devices.
Collaboration: Work with designers, project managers, and SEO specialists to deliver cohesive, optimized solutions.

What you bring to the job

You come with a strong portfolio showcasing custom themes and plugins, as well as excellent communication and team collaboration skills. You also come with:

Proven experience as a WordPress Developer (3-5+ years of experience).
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Deep understanding of the WordPress CMS and core architecture.
Strong knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and MySQL.
Proficiency in popular WordPress pagebuilders. React (for Gutenberg development), jQuery, and modern CSS frameworks like Bootstrap/Tailwind are preferred but not required.
Experience with Git version control, command line, and Docker for development environments is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of SEO best practices, accessibility standards, and web performance optimization.
Agency experience is preferred, though not required
