Position Summary
The Dispatcher will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations of driver dispatch in a busy environment, scheduling, routing and ensuring that all activities are accurately recorded in the company's transportation management system. The dispatcher will also be expected to communicate effectively with drivers to provide clear instructions and address any issues that arise during transit. Additionally, the role requires close coordination with other departments to ensure timely deliveries and maintain high customer satisfaction.
Location: Oshawa, Ontario
Schedule: Dayshift, Mon - Friday
What you will do
- Facilitate daily communication and address issues with customers, drivers, and staff
- Review driver productivity and utilization reports and provide recommendations to the Manager
- Monitor and audit daily driver activities (non-rev hours, start times, finish times, delays, etc)
- Ensuring drivers are compliant and working in a productive manner
- Order Entry, Data entry, Appointment bookings with shippers, receivers, and customers
- Maintaining internal templates and spreadsheets
- Assist in setting up planning for the next day
- Start / Close Daily trips, or end-of-week trips in a timely manner to keep the system as accurate as possible
- Customer Facing Responsibilities
- Answering phone call inquiries providing the highest level of customer service
- Providing professional responses to customer emails and communications
What You’ll Bring
- Minimum 6 months of Dispatching experience in a transportation environment
- Willing to work weekends when required
- Able to work independently
- Post-secondary or equivalent experience an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Direct experience with staff scheduling in a variable work volume environment
- Knowledge of 24 x 7 operation, preferably in the transportation industry
- Post-secondary or equivalent experience an asset
- Trained in Hours of Service and E-log an asset
Along with the following Skills & Competencies:
- Strong analytical, communication and judgment skills
- Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to multitask and handle projects simultaneously
