POSITION: Manager, Custodial and Operations
LOCATION: DCDSB - Operations & Maintenance Administrative Centre (OMAC) - 383 Chaleur Ave, Oshawa, ON - L1J 1G5
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Please note some flexibility regarding start time may be required)
SALARY: Management/Administrative - M1 ($120,329 - $139,294)

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is primarily responsible for overseeing the delivery of custodial and operations (contracted services, security, waste, portables, etc.) services at all Board schools and Administration buildings. The position will also have overall responsibility for the provision of custodial and operation services including service quality standards and assurance systems. The position will also oversee administrative functions at the OMAC location in Oshawa. This position reports to the Superintendent of Education, Facilities Services and will work in cooperation with school Principals and other Board staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver high quality, timely and cost-effective services and solutions for the custodial and operational areas, which may include cost benefit analysis, feasibility studies, technical reviews, budget estimates, and forecasting;

Develops, implements and monitors strategic directions for the custodial and operational functions;

Participate in the recruitment, staffing and allocation of human resources for custodial services with Human Resources staff;

Preparation of budget requirements and expenditure reports for custodial and operational services as required by senior management and/or the Board;

Liaising with Principals and other staff with regard custodial and operational issues within schools and administrative locations;

Works with Board planning staff to review enrollment projections, support short- and long-range Capital Accommodation Plans, assist with Ministry of Education submissions for new schools, additions, renovations and accommodation reviews, and develop the annual portable allocation plan to meet school accommodation needs;

Supports maintenance services by reviewing work orders at the school level;

Management of minor renovation and retrofit projects including assisting with the preparation of tender documents, service contracts and various projects which may be completed by Board staff or external contractors;

Works with Business Services/Procurement to review and prepare procurement documents for operational services and for renewal of all rosters and contractors associated with operational work (i.e., Waste, Security, Snow, Grass, and others as needed);

Oversees custodial services including resource allocation within the schools and administrative buildings based on established staffing and quality service standards;

Oversees a quality assurance system in regard to the provision of custodial services in the schools in support of the Principal’s role as site base manager;

Manage the professional development and training programs for custodial and maintenance staff;

Involved in board level committees as required;

Oversees the Board’s building security systems;

Supervises assigned staff and conducts annual performance reviews;

Provides input on the annual capital plan;

Supports the energy portfolio with a goal of reducing energy and water consumption across the Board;

Prepares reports to the Board of Trustees; and

Acts as a member of the Facilities Services on-call supervisory team charged with the responsibility of monitoring all Board properties to ensure safe and operational condition 24 hours per day, year-round.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
University degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
