The role will support the modern data lakehouse foundation that enables trusted analytics, data engineering, business intelligence, and emerging AI use cases across the enterprise.
The successful candidate will administer and evolve Databricks workspaces, Unity Catalog, access controls, compute policies, jobs, clusters, storage integrations, and platform standards, while also supporting enterprise database platforms, high availability/disaster recovery, backup/recovery, performance tuning, security, and compliance obligations.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Administer, configure, and support enterprise Databricks environments, including workspaces, clusters, jobs, libraries, compute policies, workspace settings, platform integrations, and operational standards. Ensure Databricks services are secure, reliable, scalable, cost-effective, and aligned with enterprise data platform objectives.
- Administer Databricks Unity Catalog governance, including metastore management, catalogs, schemas, tables, volumes, external locations, storage credentials, identity and access controls, privilege governance, lineage support, and catalog/schema design aligned to security, privacy, compliance, and audit requirements.

- Deploy, operate, and optimize cloud database services (e.g., Azure SQL DB and related Azure data services), ensuring secure connectivity, reliability, and cost-effective performance.
- Design, implement, and regularly test HA/DR architectures to meet business continuity objectives (e.g., RTO/RPO) and minimize service downtime.
- Execute routine operational tasks—including health checks, patching, and version upgrades—while maintaining compliance, reducing risk, and improving overall platform stability.
- Proactively monitor database health and performance; conduct query tuning, indexing strategies, and workload optimization to maintain response times and meet SLAs.
- Implement, monitor, and validate backup/restore procedures and recovery drills to protect enterprise data and ensure rapid restoration when required.
- Enforce security controls (RBAC, encryption, secrets management), remediate vulnerabilities, and support audit/internal control activities with evidence, logging, and governance practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4-Year University education in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6+ years of experience in database administration and cloud data platform management, including on-prem and Azure databases, HA/DR, performance tuning, backup/recovery, security/compliance, and Databricks Unity Catalog governance.
- Proven experience managing Azure database services (e.g., Azure SQL DB) including deployment, configuration, monitoring, and cost/performance optimization.
- Demonstrated expertise designing, implementing, and testing high availability and disaster recovery solutions, with clear understanding of RTO/RPO objectives.
- Strong skills in database performance monitoring and optimization, including query tuning, indexing strategies, and troubleshooting complex production issues.
- Experience implementing and validating backup/restore strategies and conducting recovery testing to ensure data protection and rapid restoration.
- Working knowledge of database security and compliance practices (RBAC, encryption, vulnerability remediation, audit support) plus administration of Databricks Unity Catalog (metastore, access controls, privilege governance, external locations, catalog/schema design).

The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods. Maintaining a high-performance culture and excellence is a core expectation of every member of our leadership team and is rewarded through the established compensation framework.
OPG is committed to employment equity. As such, we encourage applicants from equity-seeking communities (Indigenous Peoples, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, and women). We strongly believe that alleviating the under-representation of equity-seeking individuals will create a stronger OPG team and allow us to better serve the needs of our diverse communities.
