Position Summary
Floradale Feed Mill Ltd. is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Pellet Mill Operator to join our production team. The Pellet Mill Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of pellet mill equipment to produce high-quality animal feed pellets. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining efficiency, safety, and product quality within our feed production process.
Candidates must be familiar with and have experience using Progressor (or similar production/automation systems).
Responsibilities / Duties / Accountabilities
- Operate pellet mill equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Monitor and control all aspects of the pellet mill process, including adjusting machine settings, feed rates, and pellet quality parameters.
- Perform routine maintenance on pellet mill equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and part replacement.
- Conduct frequent inspections to identify equipment issues or potential failures and take appropriate corrective action.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels of raw materials (feed ingredients, binders, lubricants) to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Collaborate with the Production Supervisor, Maintenance Technicians, and other team members to troubleshoot and resolve process or equipment concerns.
- Follow all safety protocols to promote a safe working environment and prevent injuries or equipment damage.
- Maintain accurate and detailed production records, including batch numbers, pellet quality metrics, and maintenance logs.
- Assist with loading and unloading feed ingredients and finished products when required.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and provide recommendations to enhance efficiency and product quality.
- Adhere to all company policies, including quality control, sanitation, and environmental regulations.
- Utilize and maintain familiarity with Progressor systems for production tracking, monitoring, and operational adjustments.
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating pellet mill equipment or similar machinery in a feed mill, agricultural, or manufacturing facility preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with proven troubleshooting abilities.
- Knowledge of feed milling processes, equipment operation, and quality control standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and equipment specifications.
- Basic understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and liquid system operations.
- Physically capable of standing, bending, lifting, and performing repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- High attention to detail and strong adherence to established procedures.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.
- Experience with Progressor or similar production software systems is required or strongly preferred.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Additional technical or vocational training in production, agriculture, or manufacturing is considered an asset.
Required Minimum Experience
- 1+ years of production or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Agricultural or animal feed experience preferred; training is available for the right candidate.
Feed Assure / HACCP Responsibilities
- Ensure all HACCP guidelines, rules, and regulations are followed throughout production.
- Complete all required documentation accurately and consistently.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Comply with all applicable Health & Safety regulations.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and promote a safety-focused workplace.
- Support and adhere to all company health and safety initiatives and procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg.
- Standing for extended periods.
- Moving bagged feed using hand carts and mini trays.
- Exposure to fluctuating temperatures depending on seasonal conditions.
- Occasional exposure to dust during blow-down procedures.
Work Schedule / Hours
- Full-Time – Night Shift, 11:00pm to 7:00pm
- 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime and weekend work as required.
