Full job description

The General Manager will report to the Chairman of the Board of Directors and contributes to the effectiveness of the Atlantic Co-operative Country Stores. To be able to manage ACCS with a professional and enthusiastic attitude to achieve positive outcomes. To be a reliable, presentable and dependable employee. The General Manager is responsible for the oversight and attainment of the company’s goals. The General Manager supervises and coordinates all Store Mangers/Stores and contracted companies. The General Manager will be required to travel between four Stores and Bookkeeping Office monthly. This can be a hybrid system with some work from home.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and a willingness to learn for enhanced customer interactions.
Have a passion for the retail, business and agriculture industry and management, and to be able to work well under pressure in a confident and friendly manner.
To be able to train Store Mangers and know the role of all the positions in the company.
Effective problem-solving, planning, attention to detail and organizing skills.
To oversee the Store Manger and everything they are responsible for.
To operate the ACCS within budget.
To set the budget for ACCS.
Is responsible for helping to set the store’s budget.
To develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and members/customers of the store.
Is responsible for the operation of ACCS, such as supervising all Store Managers and making sure all paperwork is completed and filed appropriately.
Is responsible to oversee number of employees, employees pay rates, hours worked and vacation days, and scheduling within ACCS policies.
To set and help achieve sales objectives, margins, inventory turns, etc.
Understands all financial statements of ACCS.
Responsible for overseeing for all monies and bank accounts.
Contributes to excellent member/customer relations by providing prompt, courteous, professional service.
To oversee store security through store procedures and computer software and data security.
To ensure that government regulations regarding health and safety and hazardous materials are adhered to.
To maintain a valid NS driver’s license and be able to hold certificates needed for the job, such as forklift training and pesticide license.
To be safety conscious. Wear the required PPE and follow safe work protocols.
To make the Board of Directors aware of any situation that needs attention, such as major employee issues, capital repairs, aging A/R accounts, or public relation issues.
To sit on a board or participate in an organization that is related to Agriculture or community. Ex. Farm Safety Committee, Commodity Group, Garden Club or 4-H Club, to be approved by the ACCS Board.
Other duties as assigned or required.

The successful candidate of the general manager position will ideally have a degree in business or management, as well as a minimum of three years experience managing a business. The candidate will be required to hold other certification such as first aid, pesticide license, forklift ticket, etc.
