Job Description

Tl’azt’en Nation is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and community focused NNADP Counsellor to support community members with substance use, wellness, healing, prevention, recovery, and referral services.

The NNADP Counsellor will provide confidential support to individuals and families, assist with treatment referrals, support relapse prevention planning, provide education and prevention programming, and work closely with the Health and Wellness team to promote community wellbeing.

About the Role

This role supports community members who may be experiencing substance use concerns, trauma, grief, family challenges, mental health concerns, or barriers to wellness. The successful candidate will use a trauma informed, culturally safe, harm reduction, and client centred approach.

The NNADP Counsellor will also support community education, prevention initiatives, aftercare planning, and connection to culturally appropriate healing supports.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide confidential counselling, support, and advocacy to individuals and families affected by substance use.

Complete client intakes, assessments, wellness plans, safety plans, relapse prevention plans, and case notes.

Support clients with referrals to detox, treatment, mental health services, medical supports, housing, social services, and other community resources.

Assist clients with treatment applications, pre treatment planning, aftercare planning, and follow up support.

Provide education and prevention programming related to substance use, harm reduction, wellness, recovery, and healthy coping strategies.

Work with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural supports, and community programs where appropriate and with client consent.

Collaborate with the Health and Wellness team and other departments to support coordinated care.

Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, interagency meetings, and wellness planning as required.

Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely client documentation.

Prepare reports, statistics, program updates, and funding related documentation as required.

Support community based wellness activities, workshops, healing circles, and prevention initiatives.

Respond to urgent client needs within the scope of the role and refer to emergency or crisis services where required.

Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical practice at all times.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Diploma, certificate, or degree in addictions counselling, social work, psychology, human services, mental health, community wellness, or a related field.

Experience providing substance use, addictions, mental health, wellness, or community based counselling support.

Experience working with First Nations communities is strongly preferred.

Knowledge of trauma informed practice, harm reduction, relapse prevention, treatment planning, cultural safety, and client centred care.

Understanding of the impacts of colonization, intergenerational trauma, grief, and systemic barriers affecting First Nations communities.

Strong communication, listening, assessment, advocacy, and relationship building skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.

Experience with client documentation, case notes, reporting, and referral processes.

Knowledge of Tl’azt’en Nation culture and community, or willingness to learn.

Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence is preferred.

Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
