We are currently expanding our Cartage Division and are seeking experienced AZ Roll-Off (Dempster) Drivers to join our growing team.
Duties
- Safely operate heavy-duty Roll-Off (Dempster) trucks in an active industrial environment.
- Transport scrap metal, industrial materials, specialty containers and other customer products throughout Hamilton.
- Load and unload 4-hook and 5-hook Dempster containers using hydraulic hook-lift equipment.
- Operate PTO systems, hydraulic controls, lift/tag axles and roller jacks safely and efficiently.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspections on trucks and hydraulic equipment.
- Inspect hydraulic systems, lift equipment, rails, locking mechanisms, warning lights and safety devices before operating equipment.
- Inspect loads to ensure proper weight distribution, load height and no overhanging material prior to transport.
- Complete weigh scale procedures and maintain accurate driver logs and operational paperwork.
- Communicate professionally with dispatch, supervisors and customer personnel throughout the shift.
- Operate safely around overhead cranes, heavy equipment, rail crossings and active industrial operations.
- Follow all Ministry of Transportation regulations, customer site rules and Thomas Solutions Safe Operating Procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe and professional work environment.
- Perform physical duties as required, including tarping loads, climbing equipment and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
Requirements
- Valid Ontario AZ Driver's Licence.
- Clean Driver's Abstract and CVOR.
- Roll-Off, Hook Lift, Dump Truck or Heavy Equipment experience is considered a strong asset.
- Excellent safety and compliance record.
- Strong backing and maneuvering skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining excellent communication with dispatch.
- Flexible to work various shifts, overtime and weekends as operationally required.
- Steel mill or heavy industrial experience is considered an asset.
- Willingness to learn additional heavy equipment and customer-specific operating procedures.
