Full job description

Job Overview

Evolve Learning is seeking knowledgeable, reliable, and enthusiastic Math and Science Tutors for students in Grades 6–12.

We are looking for tutors who are highly comfortable teaching one or more of the following subjects:

Mathematics
Functions
Advanced Functions
Calculus and Vectors
Chemistry
Physics
Biology
General Science

Candidates who are comfortable teaching multiple subjects are strongly preferred. For example, Math and Physics, Math and Chemistry, Chemistry and Biology, or multiple senior-level Math and Science courses.

Tutors should be confident working with students at different academic levels, from students who need help rebuilding foundational skills to high-achieving students who move quickly or require more challenging material.

Duties

Provide one-on-one online tutoring for students in Grades 6–12
Teach one or more areas of Math, Functions, Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or General Science
Explain concepts clearly and adapt explanations when a student is struggling
Help students strengthen foundational skills and address gaps in understanding
Support students with homework, assignments, test preparation, and exam review
Develop lessons based on each student's current level, learning style, and academic goals
Create and assign appropriate practice questions or homework when needed
Occasionally create quizzes, tests, or review materials to assess a student's understanding and reinforce concepts
Assess student progress and adjust teaching methods as needed
Write clear lesson notes and summaries following tutoring sessions
Book and manage tutoring sessions through the Evolve Learning platform
Keep session information and student records up to date on the platform
Communicate politely and professionally with students and parents regarding scheduling, progress, and academic needs
Follow up with parents or students when necessary regarding scheduling, homework, progress, or upcoming sessions
Use screen sharing, tablets, digital whiteboards, or other interactive tools during online lessons
Encourage questions, critical thinking, and independent problem-solving
Communicate reliably with students, parents, and the Evolve Learning team

Qualifications

Strong knowledge of at least one Math or Science subject at the Grades 6–12 level
Confidence teaching the subjects and grade levels listed in your application
Confidence explaining concepts clearly to students with different learning needs and skill levels
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Patient and comfortable changing teaching approaches when a student does not understand a concept
Comfortable communicating directly and professionally with parents and students
Comfortable following up with families when necessary
Comfortable booking and managing sessions through an online tutoring platform
Comfortable writing lesson notes, assigning homework, and creating practice materials
Able to create quizzes, tests, or review materials when appropriate
Comfortable using computers, tablets, video conferencing, screen sharing, and online teaching tools
Reliable and able to maintain consistent communication and scheduling
Prior tutoring experience is strongly preferred
Prior teaching, mentoring, coaching, or other experience working with students is an asset
Currently pursuing or having completed post-secondary education in mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology, health sciences, education, or another relevant field is an asset
Experience with the Ontario curriculum is an asset
Experience working with diverse learners or students requiring additional academic support is an asset
