You must be available to work both 7am to 3:30pm and 3:30pm to 12am on a rotating basis to ensure Production is not down at any given time.
Purpose and Scope
Cancoil Industrial Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and controls for production equipment and facility systems. This role ensures reliable operation, supports new equipment installation and integration, and maintains compliance with safety standards while optimizing equipment performance and uptime.
Organizational Relationship
Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and works closely with other maintenance staff, including mechanical and general maintenance technicians, as well as production personnel. Coordinates with engineering teams for equipment installation and process optimization.
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily in a manufacturing or industrial environment with exposure to noise, heat, and moving machinery.
- Requires standing, walking, climbing, and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- May require working at heights or in confined spaces.
- On-call or overtime may be required to respond to equipment breakdowns.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection is required.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Installation & Maintenance
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical control panels, automation systems, and machine-mounted equipment within the facility.
- Assist in the installation, commissioning, and upgrading of new manufacturing equipment, including performing control-system and machine-side electrical tasks.
- Support licensed electricians with facility-side electrical installations and power connections where required.
- Maintain spare parts inventory to support electrical maintenance and minimize downtime.
- Interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to diagnose and assist in resolving equipment issues.
2. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical and control systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Troubleshoot and repair machine-side electrical, PLC, and automation components (24V–600V) in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulations.
- Support programming, configuration, and maintenance of PLCs, drives, sensors, and HMI panels.
- Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
3. Compliance & Safety
- Perform electrical work in accordance with company policies, applicable standards, and the limits of permitted industrial electrical tasks.
- Follow and enforce all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, and promote a strong culture of electrical safety.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and documentation of all work performed using CMMS systems.
- Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives related to electrical reliability and efficiency.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- 5+ years of electrical maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment (HVAC or related manufacturing experience preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent technical diploma/certification.
- Trade certification (309A, 442A) is considered an asset but not required.
- Strong knowledge and hands on experience of electrical systems, PLCs, motors, drives, sensors, and control panels.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Hands-on troubleshooting and repair of machine-side electrical systems, PLCs, drives, and control components within the permitted industrial scope (24V–600V).
- Familiarity with safety standards, lockout/tagout, and regulatory compliance
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
