JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of an Environmental Advisor.
Reporting to the Section Manager Environment, this position is responsible for supporting a large, complex nuclear project through the federal Impact Assessment process, including reviewing technical documents prepared by vendors and contractors and contributing to the quality, consistency, and coordination of required materials and responses. The position also involves working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to identify and resolve cross-cutting issues and support engagement with government reviewers, Indigenous Nations and communities, the public, and other stakeholders.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Support a multi-disciplinary team in the successful delivery of a large, complex nuclear project through the integrated federal Impact Assessment/License to Prepare Site process
- Review, assess, and provide comments on technical documents, reports, studies and submissions prepared by vendors, consultants and contractors.
- Support coordination of environmental studies and technical inputs related to areas such as aquatic and terrestrial ecology, surface water and groundwater, air quality, climate change, land use, socio-economic conditions, cumulative effects and accidents and malfunctions.
- Support the preparation, coordination, and review of responses to comments, information requests, and questions from federal and provincial government reviewers, Indigenous Nations, stakeholders and public.
- Identify, track, and help resolve environmental, regulatory, and technical issues pertaining to the assessment of environment, health, social and economic conditions that may affect project scope, schedule, approvals, or stakeholder commitments.
- Support engagement activities with government reviewers, Indigenous Nations, the public, municipalities, interest groups, and other stakeholders
- Help prepare briefing materials, presentations, meeting summaries, issue-tracking tables, correspondence, and other materials required to support the integrated federal IA process
- Maintain organized records of comments, commitments, decisions, technical reviews, and regulatory correspondence
- Provide environmental and regulatory advice to project teams to support decision-making and project planning.
- Support the identification and management of project environmental risks, mitigation measures, follow-up requirements, and commitments.
- Promote a strong safety, environmental, and compliance culture consistent with OPG values, policies, and project requirements.
- Represent OPG on internal and external environmental committees, maintain positive stakeholder relationships, influence environmental legislation and initiatives, and perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of related experience in impact/environmental assessments, environmental planning and approvals processes, environmental management, and environmental performance improvement. Experience in conducting health, social and economic conditions will be considered an asset.
- 4 year University degree in appropriate field of Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology or a related field; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated understanding of federal and provincial environmental assessment, impact assessment, permitting, and regulatory approvals processes.
- Experience reviewing, preparing, or coordinating technical environmental reports, regulatory submissions, responses to information requests, and supporting documentation.
- Experience supporting large-scale, complex projects, ideally in the energy, infrastructure, nuclear, industrial, or resource development sectors.
- Proven ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary project teams, including technical specialists, project managers, regulators, consultants, Indigenous relations, communications, and legal/regulatory teams.
- Experience assessing or supporting studies related to health, social, and economic conditions is considered an asset.
- Consulting experience on large capital projects, environmental assessments, impact assessments, or regulatory approvals processes is considered an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear briefing materials, technical comments, reports, correspondence, and presentations.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, deliverables, and stakeholders in a fast-paced project environment.
