Personal Lines Underwriter
Our Underwriting Team plays a key role in protecting what matters most to our Policyholders. Working closely with our Agents and Broker network, you will evaluate risk, coverage, and pricing on home and auto related policies, helping to shape the growth and stability of our personal lines portfolio.
As the successful candidate, you understand that the work you do has a direct impact on our Policyholders and communities. You bring strong analytical skills and sound judgment to every decision. You are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and excel in a fast-paced environment that requires balancing competing priorities. You value building meaningful relationships with our Agents, Brokers, and team members, and take pride in helping our members and communities thrive.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate new, renewal, endorsement, exception, and referral requests for personal lines according to company policy, to determine insurance risk, premiums, coverage, and other policy conditions.
- Provide exceptional customer service to our Policyholders through sound underwriting and accurate, responsive handling of quotes, new business issuance, endorsements, and renewals.
- Develop and foster strong relationships with our Agents and Brokers, providing expertise to build solutions that profitably grow our personal lines portfolio.
- Gather and compile required policy data, including researching claim history.
- Consult with Agents and Brokers to clarify underwriting decisions, rate classifications, and confirm correct rates and rules are applied.
- Provide insight and feedback on system enhancements to improve workflow and efficiencies.
Skills and Experience:
- Post-secondary education is strongly preferred.
- CIP designation or working towards, is an asset.
- 2 years of personal lines underwriting experience is strongly preferred.
- Intermediate knowledge and understanding of personal lines products, with the ability to interpret policies, guidelines, and wordings.
- Previous exposure to Guidewire Policy Centre would be an asset.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and effective organizational skills.
- Demonstrated teamwork with a high level of collaboration and communication, working closely with areas such as Claims, Agents, and Loss Prevention.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and analytical skills.

Hiring annual salary range: $55,000-$65,000
