MacEwan University is seeking Case Managers for 2 full-time continuing opportunities with our Office of Student Support and Accountability.
In this role, you will provide non-clinical case management for students experiencing complex personal, medical, mental health, behavioural, safety-related, or wellness concerns. As a core member of the Collaborative Assessment, Response, and Evaluation (CARE) Team, you will contribute to case analysis, risk-informed recommendations, and guidance on coordinated responses for students of concern.
Although this is a non-clinical role, it requires strong knowledge of mental health, behavioural risk, trauma-informed practice, crisis response, privacy, and student support systems. The position uses professional judgment to support students in distress and help the University respond to situations that may affect student well-being or campus safety. The role may also provide on-call support outside normal working hours for urgent or complex student matters that require timely follow-up, coordination, or escalation.
Key responsibilities include:

Conducting intake, triage, and psychosocial assessments for students experiencing complex non-academic concerns, including acute mental health crises, and/or behavioral health concerns, risk of harm to self or others, violence risk, trauma related concerns or other barriers that may affect well-being, functioning or safety, including but not limited to housing stability and food security;

Assessing student needs, level of concern, urgency, and potential risk to self or others using evidence-informed tools, established protocols, and structured professional judgment;

Applying trauma-informed, equity-centered, culturally responsive, and strengths-based approaches when assessing student circumstances and determining appropriate support pathways;

Providing consultation and direct case management support to students, faculty, staff, and service partners, including navigating university services, community resources, emergency supports, and ongoing care options;

Maintaining accurate, detailed, and professionally sound case documentation, including assessment findings, care plans, risk assessments, intervention rationale, referrals, follow-up, and key case decisions, to support continuity of care, accountability, and legally defensible records;

Coordinating access to internal university support services and external community supports;

Assisting with transition and return-to-campus planning, including consideration of behavioural expectations, functional readiness, and available supports, when determined appropriate;

Contributing to the development of case management protocols, referral pathways, documentation standards, care planning templates, and response protocols;

Identifying trends, emerging issues, service gaps, and recurring risk factors from case work to inform program, policy, or process improvements; and

Ensuring case management practices align with privacy legislation, institutional policies, professional standards, trauma-informed practice, and current best practices.
You will have:

Advanced knowledge of mental health, behavioural risk, crisis response, trauma-informed practice, suicide risk, threat assessment concepts, and student support systems;

Strong ability to conduct psychosocial assessment, risk triage, structured professional judgment, intervention planning, and case prioritization;

Knowledge of privacy legislation, informed consent, confidentiality, duty of care, procedural fairness, and institutional risk considerations in a post-secondary environment;

Strong consultation skills, including the ability to guide faculty, staff, and administrators through complex student situations with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment;

The ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary responses involving students, academic units, student services, security, counselling, accessibility services, residence, conduct, external providers, and emergency services;

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitive information clearly, respectfully, and appropriately to diverse audiences;

The ability to remain calm, organized, and responsive in crisis or high-pressure situations;

Strong documentation skills, including the ability to record relevant case information, assessment rationale, intervention plans, and decisions accurately and professionally;

A commitment to accessibility, cultural safety, and student-centered practice;

The ability to identify trends, service gaps, and systemic barriers and contribute to continuous improvement in student support processes; and

A commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining current knowledge of trends, evidence-informed practices, professional standards, and emerging issues in student case management, mental health, behavioural intervention, risk assessment, and post-secondary student support.

A minimum of a Master’s degree in social work, counselling psychology, psychology, psychiatric nursing, clinical psychology, or a related mental health, counselling, or human services field.

A minimum of 5 years of related experience in complex case management, mental health, crisis response, counselling, social work, behavioural intervention, student affairs, health care, community services, or a related field.

Experience in a post-secondary environment would be considered an asset.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

This position is on campus only.

This position may be required to provide on-call support outside normal working hours to maintain continuity of support for urgent, complex, or time-sensitive student situations. After-hours support may involve consultation, coordination, referral, escalation, or follow-up in accordance with established protocols.
