GENERAL SUMMARY
Reporting to and working closely with the Community Engagement Librarian, the Creative Assistant supports in the development and execution of creative initiatives for the Squamish Public Library. In close consultation with other Library staff, oversees the digital presence and voice of social media channels, and creates engaging print and digital promotional materials. The incumbent will also be responsible for the timely design and production of user-friendly, effective, and appealing materials including guides, signage, invitations, forms, reports, and various other materials. The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented individual who is effective in both oral and written communication. Excellent customer service and collaborative team skills are essential to this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES
Digital Engagement and Social Media:
- Creates engaging digital content including video, graphics, and written posts using tools such as smartphones, cameras, design apps, and video editing software.
- Manages and monitors the Library’s social media accounts, ensuring timely, relevant, and engaging content across platforms.
- Assists in the development, coordination, and execution of the Library’s social media strategy in accordance with the Library’s social media policy.
- Creates and sends bi-weekly Library email newsletter, works to increase subscriber base, and uses email metrics to increase click and opening rates.
- Stays current on trends and innovations in marketing, technology, and digital engagement, and recommends new tools and approaches aligned with the Library’s strategic goals.
- Attends and documents Library and community events to gather content for newsletters, reports, and online promotion.
- Maintains statistics and creates and develops initiatives and campaigns for social media to engage followers on channels to attract new audiences.
- Supports in the maintenance and enhancement of the Library website, including content creation, content management, and minor website development tasks.
Design and Promotion:
- In close consultation with the Community Engagement Librarian, plans, designs, and creates a wide variety of creative communication materials and campaigns that communicate the value and variety of the Library’s services, collections, and programs for print and digital.
- Communicates regularly with programming team on event bookings and programs to promote and report on.
- Helps support and maintain design standards for Library marketing and communication materials.
Library Service Desk/General Library Support:
- Provides high-quality customer service at the public service desk, including circulation, reference, and reader’s advisory services.
- Check-in and check-out of Library materials.
- Registers new patrons into Library database and updates patron records.
- Provides information to patrons regarding charges to their accounts and Library policies.
- Instructs patrons on how to use online catalogues and self-checkout machine.
- Opens and closes the Library when required and follows all relevant opening and closing procedures.
- Assists Library users with locating materials in the library catalogue, accessing the Library’s digital resources, and use of both public internet computers and personal electronic devices.
- Provides information on Library programs and services.
Performs other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong creative and technical marketing knowledge including:
- Proficiency with web tools and design software (Adobe, Canva, WordPress).
- Familiarity with social media and newsletter tools for libraries and organizations.
- Understanding of best practices for content creation and graphic design for print
- and web.
- Social media and newsletter management.
- Excellent copywriting and proofreading skills.
- Possesses a strong and unique sense of visual design and creativity.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills; must possess the ability to plan, prioritize and perform multiple concurrent duties with deadlines.
- Must have confidence in decision-making, be a self-starter, and can work independently under supervision of Community Engagement Librarian.
- Displays a strong commitment to customer service excellence with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to deal with people in a professional and friendly manner.
- Familiarity with project management tools, e.g. Planner, Asana, Trello.
- Adaptable and flexible in a changing work environment; demonstrates curiosity, initiative, and resilience.
- Demonstrates discretion and maintains confidentiality.
REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary diploma in graphic design, communications, marketing, or a related field.
- 2-years’ minimum related experience in communications including marketing, media relations, social media, and public relations.
- 1-year minimum customer service experience.
- Knowledge of Library policies, programs, services, and plans, and a broad knowledge of the community considered an asset.
- An original Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check, satisfactory to the employer will be required before starting in this position.

- An equivalent of education, training, and experience.

Current Hours of work: 28-hours per week, four-day week schedule running Tuesday through Saturday. This role is entirely on-site in the library and may require occasional evening or weekend hours to attend library events.
Salary: $36.22 - $39.57 per hour
