Catalyst Wellness Care Team Member (Group Home Support Worker)
Employment Type: Full-time, part-time, casual/relief; shift-based
Compensation: $21-$26/hour, based on years of experience and qualifications
Shift Premiums: Awake overnight: $2/hour top-up. Sleeping overnight: $100/night plus regular hourly wage for any awake hours. On-call: $60/day top-up if assigned.
Schedule: Days, evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts as required

About the Opportunity
Catalyst Wellness is hiring Care Team Members to support children and youth in a group home setting. Care Team Members help create a safe, stable, respectful, and home-like environment where young people are supported through daily routines, relationship, structure, skill development, and trauma-informed care.
This is a hands-on direct-care role for people who can remain calm under pressure, build trust, follow care plans and safety routines, complete documentation, and work as part of a consistent team.

About the Role
As a Care Team Member, you will support the daily care, safety, and well-being of children and youth. You will provide direct supervision, emotional support, practical guidance, and structure while helping youth develop life skills, regulation strategies, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
Care Team Members report to the Program Director and/or Care Team Lead and work closely with the care team, supervisors, families, community partners, and other supports as required.
What You Will Do
Direct care and supervision
- Provide consistent, attentive support to promote the safety and well-being of children and youth.
- Support daily routines including meals, hygiene, school, appointments, activities, and bedtime.
- Maintain a safe environment in the home, during transportation, and during community activities.
- Follow staffing, supervision, household, and safety expectations at all times.
Relationship-based support
- Build safe, trusting relationships with children and youth.
- Model respectful, calm, consistent, and professional behaviour.
- Support emotional regulation using trauma-informed and relationship-based approaches.
- Respond to challenging behaviour with curiosity, understanding, boundaries, and approved de-escalation strategies.
Care plans and individualized support
- Follow each child/youth's Individualized Care Plan and related safety or support plans.
- Support goals related to behaviour, development, wellness, school, family connection, and daily living.
- Apply individualized strategies and interventions as directed by supervisors and program leaders.
- Participate in team discussions, planning, updates, and follow-up as required.
Daily living and life skills
- Walk alongside children and youth as they build life skills, independence, routines, and confidence.
- Encourage positive social interaction, communication, self-care, and age-appropriate responsibility.
- Support recreational, community, land-based, cultural, and household activities when included in programming.
- Contribute to a calm, clean, welcoming, and respectful home environment.
Documentation and communication
- Complete clear, timely, and accurate documentation including shift logs, incident reports, behaviour tracking if applicable, visit logs, and other required records.
- Communicate important information during shift transitions and team updates.
- Report concerns, risks, incidents, and changes in a child/youth's presentation to supervisors promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries in all documentation and communication.
Safety and crisis response
- Respond to incidents using approved de-escalation and crisis-response approaches.
- Follow safety plans, emergency procedures, medication-related procedures where assigned, and all agency policies.
- Participate in incident debriefs, follow-up planning, and continuous improvement conversations.
- Seek direction and support when a situation requires additional guidance or escalation.
Team collaboration
- Work respectfully and consistently with other Care Team Members, Care Team Leads, Program Directors, and external partners.
- Participate in team meetings, training, supervision, and onboarding activities.
- Contribute to a positive, accountable, and supportive team environment.
- Be reliable for scheduled shifts and communicate proactively about attendance or coverage concerns.

Qualifications and Experience
- Preferred: diploma, certificate, or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Community Support, Education Assistant, Disability Studies, Health Care Aide, Mental Health and Addictions, Recreation, or a related field.
- Equivalent combinations of education, professional experience, and relevant lived experience may be considered.
- Experience supporting children, youth, families, or vulnerable people in residential care, group homes, shelters, schools, recreation or camp programs, mental health/addictions, disability services, family support, or community programs is an asset.
- Experience with trauma-informed care, emotional regulation, de-escalation, life skills support, and relationship-based care is an asset.
- Experience supporting Indigenous children, youth, families, or culturally diverse communities is welcomed and valued.
- Strong communication, observation, documentation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills are important for success in this role.
Requirements
- Valid First Aid and CPR Level C, or willingness to obtain before working independently.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Child Intervention Record Check.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Clean or acceptable Driver's Abstract.
- Ability to complete orientation and required training, including confidentiality, documentation, safety, trauma-informed care, and Catalyst Wellness policies and procedures.
- Reliable transportation and ability to work days, evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts as scheduled.
Working Conditions
- Shift work, including days, evenings, weekends, awake overnights, and sleeping overnight shifts as required.
- Physically and emotionally demanding work in a residential care setting.
- Ability to respond to crisis situations, incidents, and urgent needs calmly and appropriately.
- May include transportation, community outings, household routines, cleaning support, meal support, and practical daily-life tasks.
- Requires confidentiality, sound judgment, professionalism, emotional steadiness, and strong boundaries.
