Client Care Worker

Hours: 12-hour Shifts | Days(8am-8pm) and Nights(8pm-8am) | FT/PT/Casual - $23/hr
Actively seeking: Multiple candidates with Open Availability for existing positions. Candidates with Night availability will have higher priority.

Location: 316 Spruce Street South, Timmins ON

Living Space is a low-barrier, non-profit emergency homelessness shelter offering 24/7 support for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Lived experiences, culture, and perspectives are essential to fostering a healthy shelter environment for both staff and homeless community members on Treaty 9. Indigenous candidates are encouraged to apply.

Position Summary:

“What does this client need today, and how can we support them through their daily journey?”
The Client Care Worker provides direct client support, wellness monitoring, relationship-based care, and practical assistance within a low-barrier shelter environment. This role blends peer support principles, personal support worker-informed practice (excluding personal care duties), and client care responsibilities to promote client dignity, safety, stability, and connection.

Working as part of an interdisciplinary care team, the Client Care Worker reports to the Charge Worker during assigned shifts, and implements individualized care plans (client goals, care planning, and service coordination) developed in collaboration with the Community Services Coordinator. This role focuses on daily client engagement, observation, support, crisis response, and assisting clients in meeting identified goals.

Requirements:

· Ability to speak Cree, Ojibway or French will be considered a high-priority asset.

· Candidates with Lived-experience are encouraged to apply.

· A 2-year diploma in a related field (i.e. Personal Support Worker certificate, Nursing diploma, Community Services diploma, Social Service Worker diploma, Mental Health and Addictions certificate, Peer Support training) or equivalent education/experience preferred.

· Paid or unpaid experience working with marginalized individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health concerns, substance use, trauma, or complex social needs.

· Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and recovery-oriented practice.

· Strong communication, observation, and relationship-building skills.

· Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check is required.

· Living Space has a Vaccination Policy that requires employees to take part in vaccination programs recommended by Public Health Unit.

Core Competencies:

· Willingness to work a variety of shifts when coverage is needed; day/night, weekday/weekend. Ability to develop and maintain a dependable attendance pattern being on-time and present for the full duration of all shifts.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality effectively with the ability to uphold professional and ethical boundaries.

· Analytical thinking skills: Ability to make good decisions and solve/avoid problems as they arise.

· Demonstrated strong sense of initiative, personal accountability, dependability and time-management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Client Support

· Build consistent, trusting, and respectful relationships with clients.

· Provide trauma-informed, strengths-based, and person-centered support.

· Offer emotional support, encouragement, and practical assistance.

· Support clients with daily routines, problem-solving, and goal achievement.

· Promote client choice, independence, dignity, and self-determination.

· Use peer support approaches that recognize lived experience, resilience, and recovery.

Client Wellness and Observation

· Complete regular wellness checks and observe changes in client presentation, behavior, health, or overall well-being.

· Identify emerging concerns and communicate changes to the Charge Worker and Community Services Coordinator.

· Support clients in accessing healthcare, appointments, and community services.

· Provide health promotion, harm reduction education, and wellness support.

· Monitor client needs and contributes observations to care planning.

Care Plan Support

· Assist clients in following individualized care plans.

· Support goals identified through assessment and care planning.

· Provide follow-up and encouragement related to appointments, referrals, and community connections.

· Communicates client progress, challenges, and changing needs to the care team.

· Participate in team discussions regarding client support needs.

Crisis Intervention and Harm Reduction

· Respond to client distress using trauma-informed and de-escalation approaches.

· Support overdose prevention and response according to organizational procedures.

· Assist clients experiencing mental health, substance use, or emotional challenges.

· Recognize when additional support is required and escalate appropriately.

· Maintain safety while respecting client autonomy and dignity.

Documentation and Communication

· Complete accurate and timely client documentation.

· Record client interactions, observations, interventions, and outcomes.

· Participate in shift debriefing/handovers and team communication.

· Report significant changes or concerns to appropriate team members.

Scheduling: Extra available shifts are posted for Employees to select extra shifts they would like to work. Selected shifts are then approved/scheduled based on business needs. Casual Employees must be available to work a minimum of one shift bi-weekly, to a maximum of 44 hours per week. Part-Time Employees will be pre-scheduled up to 24 hours with the option to select extra shifts as needed. Full-Time Employees will receive a full schedule created in partnership with the Operations Team.
