- You perform a wide variety of moderately complex carpentry duties necessary to construct, repair, renovate, and maintain structural woodwork such as concrete/steel forms, proprietary pre-fab forms, shoring, hoarding, scaffolding; build framework, trim, stairs, doors, window frames, partitions, walls, ceilings, etc.;
- The work will also involve a variety of routine construction, maintenance and repair work performed on bridge structures, tunnel structures, elevated guideways, retaining walls, slabs, etc.;
- You may, from time-to-time, perform maintenance and repair work such as structure cleaning, abrasive blast cleaning, core drilling, steel and concrete repairs, concrete removals, concrete replacement and finishing; cleaning the subway and yard ROW including biohazards and sharps, partake in structure maintenance drainage operations, type 1 asbestos abatement and type 2 asbestos clean-up and MMMF removal as required.
- Must be certifiable to wear breathing apparatus as per the respiratory protection program;
- Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers and/or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within your area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.
- Valid Certificate of Qualification as a General Carpenter (403-A) normally obtained through Grade 12 education, plus proof of successful completion of the apprenticeship training programme for the Carpentry trade;
- Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions;
- Must have practical experience and knowledge specific to the construction of concrete forms/shoring including material selection, pressurized forms, pour stop bulkheads, expansion joints, specialized anchoring hardware and associated accessories and placement of reinforcing steel that would normally be obtained through approximately 12 months of related experience;
- You currently have a valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario class "G" driver's license in good standing;
- May be required to attend and successfully complete the TTC’s training program for truck operation and pass the written and practical tests required for a Class “DZ” driver’s license;
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
