EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Newfoundland and Labrador Fish Harvesting Safety Association (NL-FHSA) is an industry-led, non-profit association established to address workplace injuries, illness, and fatalities in the harvesting sector of the commercial fishing industry. The NL-FHSA is seeking an Executive Director who will lead the delivery of a strategic occupational health and safety plan designed to enhance health and safety in the fish harvesting sector.

This position is ideally suited to a dynamic, adaptive individual with a background in marine health and safety as well as experience and skills in strategic leadership, organizational management, fundraising development and delivery, media relations, provincial and federal legislation pertaining to fish harvesters and the marine environment, policy development and industry engagement.

The Executive Director will report directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for setting the strategy and direction of the Association. The Executive Director understands the importance of a collaborative, industry-led, consensus-building approach, ensures ongoing engagement with primary stakeholders, and continues to strengthen the Association’s successes by leading the process of advancing occupational health and safety in the sector.

The Executive Director will be the principal spokesperson on Association issues and maintain regular communications with fish harvesters, fish harvester representatives, provincial and federal regulatory authorities, WorkplaceNL, media and public at large.

Working collaboratively with a small team, the Executive Director will have direct involvement for the implementation of programs and tactics to achieve goals, execution of the Association’s mandate and performance measurement and evaluation. Other responsibilities include day-to-day oversight and management of board operations, development and implementation of strategic work plans, facilitation and management of education programs, and fiscal management ensuring financial sustainability through effective resource allocation and fundraising efforts.

Qualifications should include post-secondary graduation in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and related work experience as a senior administrator with some knowledge of occupational health and safety in a marine environment; demonstrated experience in strategic planning and program administration; as well as exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills.

The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will not exceed $95,000. Deadline for applications is Monday, July 13, 2026.

Pay: $80,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
