Full job description

Providence Centre was built in 1965 by the Sisters of Providence and remains primarily the home of the Sisters. Situated on 25 acres of beautifully maintained grounds, the Centre includes a chapel and the Oratory of Mary, Mother of Sorrows. Providence Centre also houses a Nursing Care Unit licensed to provide supportive living services. Dietary, housekeeping, linen care, and maintenance services are provided in-house.

Providence Centre is currently seeking a Part-Time Librarian to join our team.

Position Details

Schedule: Monday to Friday
Hours: 4.5 hours per day (9:30AM - 2:30PM)
Reports to: Executive Director

Position Summary:

The Librarian is responsible for managing and maintaining the Providence Centre library, ensuring residents, Sisters, staff, and visitors have access to organized, relevant, and engaging library resources. The successful candidate will oversee library collections, support patrons in locating materials, promote library services, and foster a welcoming environment that encourages lifelong learning and enjoyment of reading.

Job Availability: Immediately

Job duties include but not limited to:

Maintain a clean, organized and welcoming library
Provide excellent first-contact customer service to visitors
Be familiar with the aspects of library work such as cataloguing and classification, collection development, reference, acquisitions, and library management.
Maintain the electronic database and catalogue
Be knowledgeable of operational policies, procedures, practices and guidelines
Perform shelf-reading and inventory support
Process loans and returns, sort and reshelve materials
Assist with displays, special projects, book repair, and other tasks as needed
Perform other duties as required

Qualifications and Requirements:

Possess a post-secondary education in a library program
Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency, with demonstrated internet research skills
Have, as an asset, two years experience in a library or related position
Eligible to work in Canada.
Must be fluent in the English Language, written, and verbal
Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector
