Around My Gluten-Free Table Job Posting…Pastry Chef/Baker
Around My Gluten-Free Table is a dedicated gluten-free facility that provides high quality baked goods and prepared food items to those who need and choose to follow a gluten-free diet. Everything is made from scratch in small quantities to allow for variety and control. We are looking for someone to create and prepare a wide range of baked items for our shop and to fill orders…muffins, scones, cookies, butter tarts, squares, loaves, cinnamon buns, cupcakes, cakes, macarons, sugar cookies, pies, granola etc. We are looking for someone who is able to work on their own within our team in a timely and consistent manner with a high output. The development of new and exciting desserts for our specials and seasonal menus is needed.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Create and prepare all pastry items as required by the business by following recipes
- Prepare and organize ingredients for use in the kitchen and handle baking equipment
- Plan, implement and manage daily baking operations
- Suggest/create new menu items and specials
- Monitor supplies, ingredients and equipment necessary for daily baking operations
- Maintain a clean cooking station
- Adhere to health and safety standards
- Keep abreast with the latest food and industry trends
Skills and qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of baking and pastry-making techniques and ingredients
- Artistic skill in decorating desserts and cake decorating
- In-depth knowledge of sanitation principles and food preparation standards
- Strong leadership skills and an ability to provide clear instructions to other members of the staff
- Familiarity with a range of baking and a variety of kitchen equipment
- Excellent communication skills and an enthusiasm for teamwork
- Able to follow recipes and instructions accurately
- Confident culinary techniques and skills
- Good sense of planning and preparation for the day ahead
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Punctual and discipline to ensure optimal work performance
- Physically able to stand for long hours every day in a hot kitchen
- Must work efficiently in a tidy manner and able to keep a steady pace
Preferred qualifications
- 5+ years of previous working experience as Pastry Chef
- Certificate in Culinary Arts, Pastry Arts or similar relevant field
- Strong sense of culinary creativity with attention to detail
- Experience baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten free, sugarless etc.)
- In depth knowledge of sanitation principles, Food Handler’s Certificate required
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings when necessary
- Experience in managerial or leadership role
- Great attention to detail and creativity
- Great interpersonal and leadership skills
- Friendly attitude
- Strong passion for the art of food design.
Hours
40 hours a week, Full time/Permanent position
Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
Some Saturdays
Overtime at holidays is expected
