Work Schedule: 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts (days); evening shifts available to 8:00 PM; weekend shifts available but not required

Location: Downtown Edmonton

Compensation: Starting at $100.00/hour; various compensation models available

About Hope Mission

Hope Mission is a Christian non-profit social care agency that has been serving vulnerable people in Alberta since 1929. We are one of Alberta’s largest social service agencies and currently operate emergency shelters, addiction recovery programs, youth programs, community outreach services, housing programs, and health programs (delivered through our HopeHealth division) across Edmonton, Red Deer, Wetaskiwin, and beyond. Our work is grounded in our Christian faith and our commitment to walking alongside individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, and addiction. Staff are expected to uphold Hope Mission’s mission and values and to approach their work with professionalism and genuine heart for service.

Program Description – Hope Health

Hope Health delivers a variety of health services to clients utilizing Hope Mission’s shelter services. Hope Health’s nurse-led clinics provide accessible frontline healthcare support for individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, mental health challenges, and housing instability. The clinics offer low-barrier health assessments, nursing care, wound care, medication support, referrals, and connections to broader community and recovery services, helping clients address urgent health needs while building stability and trust.

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Nurse Practitioner to join the Hope Health team within our emergency shelter system and locations. As a Nurse Practitioner, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care and promoting overall wellness for the vulnerably housed community. Clients within this setting often have difficulty accessing a primary care provider, and you will be able to fill this gap by autonomously diagnosing and treating various medical conditions, as well as providing valuable patient education on health management. Clients are not panelled at this time; instead, the NP offers episodic medical care while staff ensure the client is connected to a primary care provider elsewhere.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

Conduct care consultations and medical rounds with physicians and pharmacists.
Autonomously diagnose and treat illnesses and perform medical procedures.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
Prescribe medications and monitor treatment outcomes.

Patient Education & Advocacy

Educate patients on preventative care and disease management.
Advocate for client wellness and support clients in mental health and addictions recovery.

Administration & Collaboration

Comply with PIPA, privacy, confidentiality, and FOIP requirements.
Advise on Hope Mission policies and procedures.
Participate in interdisciplinary and interagency collaboration.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the clinic.
Provide mentorship and preceptorship to colleagues, new staff, and students.

Qualifications

Education & Credentials

Completion of an accredited Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) program.
Active registration in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
Active First Aid certification (BLS-HCP preferred).
Active professional liability protection insurance.

Skills & Competencies

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
Capable of working collaboratively with the broader health care team.
Strong capacity for independence and the ability to proactively take initiative.

Preferred

Experience with vulnerable populations, especially those experiencing homelessness.
Experience in Emergency Room or Primary Care is an asset.
Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and EMR systems.
Strong understanding of Culturally Informed Care and Trauma-Informed Care.

Working Conditions

Full-time temporary position (maternity leave coverage).
Day shifts of 8, 10, or 12 hours; evening shifts available until 8:00 PM; weekend shifts available but not required.
Work takes place in a shelter or social services environment; exposure to complex client needs and situations is expected.

Other Requirements

As a Christian organization, Hope Mission requires employees to sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith.
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Able to provide a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search.
Adherence to Hope Mission’s policies and procedures.
