The Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University and McMaster Children’s

Hospital is home to over 200 pediatricians, scientists, teachers, and learners

whose collective mission is to improve the wellbeing of children and their

families – both locally, and around the world.

The Province of Ontario Neurodevelopmental (POND) Network is a

collaborative research network dedicated to improving outcomes for children,

youth, and families affected by neurodevelopmental disorders through

innovative clinical research. The McMaster POND site conducts a diverse

portfolio of observational studies and investigator-initiated clinical trials

involving children and youth with neurodevelopmental conditions, including

autism spectrum disorder and ADHD.

The Clinical Research Coordinator will join a collaborative academic research

team of clinician-scientists, psychometrist, and trainees to coordinate both

regulated clinical trials and non-trial research. The successful candidate will

contribute to all phases of the research process, including study start-up,

participant recruitment, regulatory activities, and data management, while

working across multiple innovative research subprojects. This role offers the

opportunity to develop expertise in pediatric clinical research within a dynamic

academic environment while contributing to research that advances evidence-

based care for children and families.

Job Summary:

Responsible for implementing, monitoring, refining, analyzing, coordinating, and reporting on several clinical research projects. Acts as a resource for the development of protocols, study documents, operations of study management, and management techniques.

Purpose and Key Functions:

Apply specialized knowledge and scientific principles to review, critically appraise and interpret published literature.
Write sections of scientific papers, funding proposals, and abstracts.
Coordinate the activities of research staff and resources to ensure that the project progresses in accordance with predetermined timelines.
Develop estimates of time and resources for research projects.
Oversee the collection, entry, verification, management, analysis, and reporting of data.
Use statistical software to analyze data and interpret results.
Design and maintain databases, data collection forms, error checking methods and related programs for efficient collection, analysis, and reporting.
Troubleshoot moderately complex computer problems.
Write data management and operations documentation for projects.
Liaise between the clinic centre and remote clinic sites and personnel.
Conduct structured patient interviews.
Ensure that the relevant research methodology is applied and all research material is handled in accordance with established protocols, policies, and procedures.
Participate in the development of promotional strategies and related materials to encourage participation and support for research projects.
Consult on protocol development, student organization, and data management activities.
Develop presentations and present information and training sessions to project personnel and project patients.
Present at meetings, seminars, and conferences.
Keep project participants informed of project progress through regular reports and newsletters.
Implement and maintain research project budgets. Create financial projections and make adjustments to research project budgets throughout the fiscal year.
Exercise appropriate controls, monitor, and reconcile accounts.

Supervision:

Provide lead hand supervision and is responsible for the quality and quantity of work of others.
Ongoing responsibility for supervising up to 9 casual employees at any one time.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study.

Additional Information:

Experience coordinating clinical research studies, including both regulated clinical trials and observational or longitudinal research.
Demonstrated knowledge of research ethics, participant recruitment, informed consent, and data management.
Experience working with children, youth, and families, particularly those with neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, intellectual disability, or related conditions).
Experience administering standardized clinical or research assessments is considered an asset.
Knowledge of REDCap and electronic data capture systems, with strong database management and organizational skills.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements governing clinical research, including experience with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Health Canada Division 5 regulations, and research ethics submissions.
Completion of, or willingness to complete before delegation of regulated trial activities, the following training:
- TCPS2: 2022 – Course on Research Ethics
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Health Canada Division 5
- Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate multiple studies simultaneously and work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
