Full job description

ASP Earthworks & Construction Services

ASP Earthworks & Construction Services is looking for a reliable and motivated Equipment Operator / Labourer to join our growing earthworks division.

This is a junior-level, hands-on position primarily operating skid steers / compact track loaders, packers and small excavators, combined with general earthworks labour duties.

This is not a position where you will be sitting in a machine all day. We are looking for someone willing to operate equipment, work on the ground when required, help the crew and learn all aspects of earthworks.

For the right person, there will be opportunities to develop their skills and progress into larger excavators, dozers and other heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

Operate skid steers / compact track loaders
Operate packers and compaction equipment
Operate small excavators
Assist with excavation, backfilling and material placement
Perform rough grading and basic finish grading based on experience
Assist with checking grades using lasers, benchmarks and grade stakes
Perform hand grading, shovelling, raking and general earthworks labour
Assist with trenching, drainage and site servicing work
Spot trucks and equipment
Assist with maintaining haul roads and site access
Load, unload and organize tools and materials
Complete daily equipment inspections
Grease, clean and perform basic equipment maintenance
Keep equipment and work areas clean and organized
Complete required safety documentation, timecards and equipment logs
Use a smartphone or tablet for Procore, photos, daily logs and other documentation
Assist senior operators and site supervisors as required
Perform other earthworks and construction duties as required to keep the project moving

What We're Looking For

Some previous construction, earthworks or equipment operating experience
Experience operating a skid steer / compact track loader
Small excavator experience is preferred
Packer / compaction equipment experience is an asset
Basic grading experience is an asset
Experience using a laser or checking elevations is an asset
Mechanically inclined and comfortable around construction equipment
Willing and able to perform physical labour
Comfortable working both in the machine and on the ground
Comfortable using smartphones and tablets
Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation
Able to work outdoors in changing weather conditions
Dependable and punctual
Safety-conscious
Able to take direction and work effectively as part of a crew
Willing to learn and take on additional responsibility
