Your Opportunity:

The Laboratory Technologist I will be working in the City of Camrose, which is located in East-Central Alberta along Highway 13, 7.5 km east of the junction with Highway 21. Highway 26 meets Camrose on the east and Highway 833 on the north. Camrose is 88.5 km South East of Edmonton. Some of the great things to do here include a Beautiful Mirror Lake that winds through the center of Camrose, complete with a fountain and resident swans. A total of 308 acres of parks and playgrounds; 18 hole golf course with modern clubhouse & restaurant; 3 indoor ice arenas and a 9-sheet curling rink; indoor aquatic center with waterslide & outdoor spray par; lighted ball diamonds, lighted football and soccer fields; racquetball courts, tennis courts, bowling lanes; 2 museums; full-service RV Park 107 lots; casino; Chuck MacLean Arts Centre; the Bailey Theatre; Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

This is a working level position utilizing technical skills & judgment while performing a diverse range of diagnostic procedures and duties within the scope of practice of a Medical Laboratory Technologist I. Current registration with the CMLTA. Current experience in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine and Specimen Procurement is required. Current phlebotomy experience preferred. The position includes days, evenings, nights, weekends; may be required to take call & live within 30 minutes of the facility when on call. Must have the ability to effectively communicate in English, with strong interpersonal and communication skills. This includes the ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy when dealing with coworkers, patients, physicians & leadership. Requires strong organizational skills & ability to assume responsibility, work independently and promote good teamwork under pressure & in emergencies. Demonstrate ability to prioritize workload & adapt to stressful situations by showing initiative, good judgment & attention to detail. Practices effective infection control, & safety techniques as applicable. Proficient computer skills. Demonstrate desire & actions to enhance professional development. Ability to interpret, explain & apply applicable legislation, standards, policies & procedures Receptive to new ideas & change.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in the past two years:. Complete Transfusion Medicine. Operating and Troubleshooting; Vitros XT3400, Access 2, Sysmex XN1000, ACL Elite Pro, ISTAT, Triage, Ortho Gel method,GEM 5000. Connect Care training an asset.
