The Nourish and Develop Foundation (TNDF) is a non-profit located in Cannington, Ontario on a mission to connect people to nourishing food and supportive resources, empowering the community to come together to develop lasting change. Position Summary
The Program Assistant will work closely with, and under the supervision of program coordinators, to provide hands-on support across TNDF’s programs and services.
No two days are exactly the same in this flexible, team-focused role! Responsibilities may include preparing food in our Community Kitchen, supporting community members in our Food Bank, selling produce at our Community Market, tending to our gardens, helping community events run smoothly and successfully, and bringing a variety of programs and initiatives to life.
Position Term
September 7, 2026 – May 8, 2028 (Temporary Maternity Leave Coverage)
Hours and Location
This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. Standard working hours are:
- Monday: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
- Tuesday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- Wednesday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Thursday: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Evening and/or weekend shifts may be required for this role, with advance notice given.
This position is based in Cannington, Ontario. There is no remote work or hybrid work option available for this position
Compensation and Benefits

Tasks and Duties
Program Assistance
- Support clients, customers, and community members accessing food or other services, ensuring programs are welcoming, respectful, dignified, and equitable
- Assist with food preparation and processing, which may include cooking, baking, pickling, preserving, and preparing food in large batches for programs and other initiatives
- Purchase, pick up, receive, restock, and organize food, supplies, and inventory as needed
- Reduce food waste through proper storage, handling, and use of ingredients, including processing edible surplus for future use
- Assist with garden care and maintenance, including planting, harvesting, and general upkeep to support food production and educational activities
- Contribute to the development and delivery of food literacy programs, camps, and other community programming for children and adults
- Ensure food safety best practices are followed across all programs supported
- Help keep program and organizational spaces clean, safe, and well-organized
- Provide administrative support for programs, including data entry, record keeping, and expense submissions
- Assist with program outreach and promotion, including distributing materials and attending community events
- Supervise and support volunteers involved in program activities
- Provide additional hands-on support across programs and organizational operations as needs arise

Qualifications & Experience
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and inclusively with people of all ages, genders, abilities, and cultural backgrounds
- Experience in community-based programming, food access, food preparation, hospitality, customer service, or a related environment is an asset
- Experience working with children and/or supporting educational or recreational programming is an asset
- Experience preparing or handling food in a professional, community, or large-scale setting is an asset
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also completing tasks independently
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Willingness to learn, adapt, and take on a variety of responsibilities in a fast-paced, community-focused environment
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive movements associated with food preparation, program setup, inventory, and other hands-on tasks
- Familiarity with Brock Township, Durham Region, and/or rural community dynamics is an asset
- Valid Food Handler Certification and First Aid/CPR certification are assets
- A valid driver’s licence and reliable access to a vehicle are required
