Casual Kinesiologist / Exercise Therapist - Fish Creek

As a member of our wellness team, the Kinesiologist/Exercise Therapist is responsible for the planning, conducting, oversight, organization, and evaluation of United Active Living Fitness Programs as well as supporting other general programs. This includes planning, delivering and evaluating the fall prevention program within United Active Living Communities. General fitness classes focus on increasing, maintaining and preserving mobility; pain relief; building strength, reducing fall risk; and improving balance. Position responsibilities include assessment, creation and execution of individualized exercise programs, with the goal of rehabilitation and increasing overall quality of life.

Responsibilities (includes but not limited to)

Plans, coordinates, delivers and evaluates exercise programs and health & wellness activities to United Active Living Communities, including outings and other exercise related programming based on resident interest;
Tailors class structure to the needs of participating residents, and incorporates fall prevention activities into exercise programming;
Develops and maintains a department-specific process to gather participant feedback and evaluate practitioner services and programs;
Coordinates and facilitates activities for fall prevention;
Provides 1-1 rehab/exercise services with the goals of preserving functional independence, strength, balance, ROM and flexibility;
Provides coaching support to HCAs who may be doing some prescribed exercises;
Through exercise, supports residents who may need pain relief, rehabilitation for injuries or return from hospital;
Adjusts programming based on changing trends or needs in the community;
Purchases and maintains equipment and supplies within budget, in consultation with Finance, and in compliance with United Active Living policies;
Ensures that fitness equipment and rooms are clean and sanitized;
Chairs the Fall Prevention Committee and the Workplace Musculoskeletal Disorder Prevention Committee;
Participates in resident assessment, creating personalized programs as required/appropriate in conjunction with United Cares (Nursing);
Seeks out and builds relationships with potential practitioners to ensure a variety of health and wellness programs are available to the community;
Assists in gathering of data on interests and needs of the communities by working directly with residents and members of the community at large;
Assists programming teams with the planning and implementation of activities as needed;
Participates in Quality Enhancement reviews for the community as a whole;
Demonstrates safe practice for self, including back care;
Participates as an active member of the Health and Safety Committee and Wellness Committee; and
Builds trusting and respectful relationships with residents.

Qualifications

Post-Secondary degree in Kinesiology or related discipline;
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience facilitating exercise classes with seniors or current AFLCA Fitness for Older Adults Certification;
Experience performing assessments and creating exercise rehabilitation plans;
Fall Prevention education such as FallProof certification is an asset;
Current CPR certification;
Must possess a high degree of interpersonal relations skills, and capability for relating to seniors, their families and a variety of personalities;
Must have experience working with older adults and the physiological changes that occur with aging;
Must have proven Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook) skills;
Must have proven leadership abilities, including facilitation skills;
Must have effective time management skills;
Must be patient, tactful, courteous, and diplomatic while relating to residents, family and other staff members;
Proven ability to research trends and identify resources that consistently enhance program offerings;
Experienced in event planning, program development and coordination would be an asset; and
Possess an enthusiastic, passionate, friendly, ambitious and innovative personality.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand/walk for significant periods of time over the course of their shift.
May have to assist residents from sit to stand and vice versa
Must be able to lift up to 22 Kgs. (50 lbs).

HOURS OF WORK: Weekdays, evenings and weekends to meet the dining needs of residents. Part time and Casual positions available.
