Thresholds Homes and Supports Inc. is a community-based agency that promotes recovery and improved quality of life for people who are experiencing mental health and substance use issues by providing affordable housing and individualized, flexible support services through our wide-ranging programs offered throughout Waterloo Region and Wellington County. SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

The Life Skills Worker is part of a team supporting individuals who experience mental health and substance use issues to enable them to fulfill the goals identified in their individualized support plan. Life Skills Workers provide support for individuals we serve in the areas of supportive counseling, crisis intervention and prevention, skills development (life skills, social skills, interpersonal and problem-solving skills), vocational and leisure support. The Life Skills Worker will assist clients in developing skills towards sustainable independent housing. They will assist clients in searching for housing, liaising with landlords and developing skills to live independently. This position is Monday to Friday 8am-4pm.

Rate: $25.61- $30.70 per hour

Mondays to Fridays 8:00am-4:00pm.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of a relevant University Degree or College Health Sciences/Social Services Diploma.
1-2 years of experience in a community mental health setting working with adults with mental health and / or substance use concerns.
Must have a valid Ontario driver’s license, relevant insurance and use of a reliable vehicle.
Experience working with Indigenous communities, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and effective engagement with diverse perspectives is considered a strong asset.
Excellent organizational, oral and written skills.
Demonstrated ability to respect rights and personal preference in treatment, rehabilitation and support including the Recovery Model.
Building rapport, assessment, crisis de-escalation, conflict management, professionalism.
Certification in First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and suicide risk assessment preferred.
Proficient computer skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and electronic record keeping and data collection systems.
Able to successfully complete and provide a current Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the individuals supported.
