Role Electrical Technician

Job Location Hamilton, Ontario

Job Details Full-Time

Pay Band $25.00 – $29.00 per hour

Overview

DEI Consulting Engineers Inc. (DEI) is a professional mechanical and electrical consulting engineering firm providing services to architects and building owners in the building service industry since 1999. With a comprehensive list of completed projects ranging from residential, education, institutional, recreational, and commercial, DEI has the experience to provide full-service mechanical and electrical consulting for any development, building, or client.

Role Overview

DEI’s goal is to hire an electrical designer/technician that has graduated from an accredited university engineering program or a college level electrical, architectural, or building-focused technology program to begin their career in the building services consulting industry.

This position is for a existing vacancy.

The successful candidate will be required to:

Assist senior staff to develop electrical systems design drawings for a variety of projects, including but not limited to site lighting and servicing, life safety systems, lighting, lighting controls, building power distribution, and drawing coordination with other disciplines.
Coordination of electrical elements with various disciplines, i.e. mechanical equipment, device locations, etc.
Assist senior staff in performing and completing design calculations as required for various systems including electrical load calculations, lighting designs, etc., by providing building areas, ceiling types, fixture counts, etc. from AutoCAD plans.
Be responsible for drafting (AutoCAD) or modeling (Revit) electrical systems for projects with redline markups under the supervision of senior staff.
Be responsible for plotting and presentation of design drawings.
Be responsible for design document updates and reissuance of drawings and sketches to assist senior staff for issuing site instructions, change notices and addenda throughout the construction portion of a project.
Gain experience, understanding, and knowledge of electrical systems design, applicable Codes, and other standards.

Qualifications

University degree or diploma from an accredited university engineering program or a college level electrical, architectural, or building-focused technology program.
Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadline and deliverable dates while working on a number of ongoing projects.
Experience with AutoCAD and Revit with the ability to set up and produce electrical design drawings using detailed markups from supervisor in a fast-paced environment while adhering to company standards.
Ability to organize project information provided by supervisor and peers via email and notes.
Experience with standard computer software such as the Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, One Note).
Experience with lighting design software such as AGI32 is considered an asset.
High levels of attention to detail, retention of design approaches, and ability to draw on past experiences and apply to current situations.
Ability to think both critically and analytically while applying problem solving and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment.
Prior co-op / job experience at an engineering consulting firm is considered an asset
Highly detail oriented and able to conduct self checks on drafting presentation and company standards for produced work prior to supervisor review.
