Department of English and Cultural Studies invites applications for the following teaching position to be offered in the Fall 2026 session.

Course Name(s)/Number(s) : ENGLISH 4E03 – Literature, Culture and Climate Catastrophe

Term : Fall 2026, September 8 – December 23, 2026 (final exams December 11-23, 2026)

Location : McMaster Main Campus – In-person

Wage Rate * $9,435.73 (as per CUPE Local 3906, Unit 2 Collective Agreement)

Start Time and Duration : Two hours lecture/week – Thursdays 10:30 am – 12:20 pm

Course Description/Relevant Employment Duties

Drawing on environmental humanities, Anthropocene studies, anti-colonial, feminist, and critical race theories, this seminar considers how different creative genres (eg. fiction, poetry, film) imagine forms of belonging amid the dislocations of the climate catastrophe.

Required Qualifications

PhD completed (or near completion) in a relevant field. The successful applicant must have appropriate academic qualifications, previous experience teaching at the university level, a commitment to incorporating principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in teaching practice, and an active and current research profile.

Preferred Qualifications

*Supplemented Fees- 15.02(a) The employee may be eligible to receive supplemented fees in accordance with Schedule C of the Collective Agreement. The actual rate of pay when in excess of the base rate of pay is deemed to include any supplemented fees owing, to the extent of the excess amount. If the actual rate of pay is less than the sum of the base rate of pay and the supplemented fees owing, then the employee shall receive the difference.

Pay Transparency Statement

The starting salary will not be less than $18,871.46 per 6 units, or $9,435.73 per 3 units.
