Full job description

Kawartha Ethanol Inc. is a state-of-the-art Ethanol Production facility located in Havelock Ontario. We currently have the opportunity for the following position within our Quality Department.

Job Description

The Lab Technician-Contract position is a 3-6 month contract, full-time position. This is a twelve-hour, continental swing shift based on 84 hours worked in each two week pay period with every other weekend off. In this position you will be expected to:

Collect, process and analyze routine and non-routine fermentation samples and final products to ensure they adhere to the required specifications.
Complete required documentation to release shipments of final product
Understand the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of specified lab instruments: gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, titrators, pH meters, moisture analyzers, density meter, spectrophotometer, etc.
Calibration and set up of equipment prior to analysis. Maintain equipment calibration records.
Advanced knowledge of QMS, may be required to investigate corrective actions.
Strong technical knowledge of instrumentation and analytical techniques.
Maintain a clean working environment.
Provide guidance and training to more junior laboratory personnel.
Follow all company health, safety and environmental policies.
Follow all Quality system protocols and report any discrepancies to the supervisor.
Work in other areas of the Quality Department when needed.

Qualifications

A post-secondary education (degree and/or diploma) in a science related program (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Environmental Science) is preferred.
Experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.
Ethanol or distillery production experience is an asset.
Must be able to read, understand and follow safety rules and operating procedures
Able to work well under pressure during high peak workloads and balancing conflicting demands of high volume versus quality of results.
Proficient computer skills, including all MS Office applications.
Be able to multi-task as required.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess scientific data.
Ability to work well with others and independently.
Must have his/her own transportation.
