Full job description

Discovery Dream Homes Ltd. is looking for a dependable, hardworking Planer Operator / General Labourer to join our manufacturing team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in producing quality craftsmanship, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

In this role, you will be responsible for operating our industrial thickness planer to produce high-quality log and timber frame components while also assisting with general labour duties throughout the production facility and yard as required.

ResponsibilitiesPlaner Operation

Set up, operate, and adjust the industrial thickness planer for a variety of production jobs.
Read and interpret shop drawings and production specifications to ensure accurate dimensions.
Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain quality and consistency.
Inspect finished materials to ensure they meet company and customer quality standards.
Complete production records and report any equipment or production issues.
Perform routine machine inspections, cleaning, and preventative maintenance.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area around the planer.

General Labour Duties

Assist with material handling and movement of logs, timbers, and building materials throughout the facility.
Load, unload, sort, and organize materials for production.
Support other departments with assembly, packaging, and production tasks as required.
Assist with shipping and receiving activities.
Maintain cleanliness of the shop, yard, and workstations.
Safely operate forklifts and other equipment (training/certification provided if required).
Follow all company health and safety policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned to support daily operations.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous manufacturing, woodworking, sawmill, or construction experience is considered an asset.
Experience operating industrial woodworking equipment is an asset but not required.
Ability to read a tape measure accurately and perform basic construction mathematics, including fractions and decimals.
Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
Ability to read shop drawings or engineering drawings is an asset.
Forklift certification is an asset.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
