Salary range: $71,846 to $115,129 with normal starting salary between $78,872 and $85,897 annually, dependent on relevant education and experience.

Bargaining unit: Vocational

Type of appointment: Regular Full-Time

Schedule:

Typical instructional day is 7.5 hours long. Typical instructional week is four days and would not exceed 30 hours. As a continuing, full-time instructor, take full advantage of your 21 days of Curriculum and Professional Development time to pursue the enhancement of course materials as well as the enhancement of your current skills and knowledge. Also take advantage of available Professional Development funding allotted to employees every fiscal year to broaden your horizons beyond the scope of your current subject area. The scheduling of the program naturally allows you to typically take your 43 days of vacation during the summer months when you can take full advantage of the warm temperatures and gorgeous lakes the Okanagan has to offer. With stat holidays off and the holiday closure around Christmas, you will have time to spend the holidays at home with family and friends.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

Please note that, as per Article 36 of the BCGEU Vocational Instructors Collective Agreement, all employees on regular appointment, except those employees exempted from this provision by OC, will be required to obtain the BC Provincial Instructor’s Diploma, valid BC Teacher’s Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment, or equivalent qualification as determined by OC within a maximum of two years from date of appointment in the regular appointment category. This period may be extended by OC because of extenuating circumstances.

Your Opportunity

The duties and responsibilities of a Vocational Instructor include continuing excellence in one's field, instructional and professional duties, professional development and service.

Functions and Duties

Instructional duties may include any or all of the following: instructional (teaching assignments); course and program preparation and revision; student contact; student advising; evaluation and marking of student work and other functions related to instruction.
Professional duties may include any or all of the following: curriculum development, student registration and pre-registration duties.
Professional development is activity intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence and technical competence in the area of professional or instructional expertise.
Service may include any or all of the following: school visitations; participation on OC committees; attendance at articulation meetings; representing OC at other function; administrative and other duties.

Education and Experience

Successful completion of a related apprenticeship program and a Certificate of Apprenticeship with an Interprovincial endorsement.
An undergraduate degree and post-secondary teaching experience are preferred; however, applicants with an equivalent combination of teaching and work experience may be considered.
An Instructor's Diploma or valid BC Teacher's Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment is preferred and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
Six to ten years recent relevant experience.
