About Vancouver Stainless Steel (VSS)

Vancouver Stainless Steel is a locally owned and operated custom stainless steel fabrication company specializing in high-quality foodservice equipment and architectural metal solutions. Based in Port Coquitlam, BC, VSS works with restaurants, commercial kitchens, institutional facilities, and foodservice operators to deliver custom fabrication projects built to the highest standards of craftsmanship, functionality, and durability. Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Estimator to join our team specializing in custom foodservice equipment and sheet metal fabrication. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, analyzing project specifications, coordinating with vendors and internal departments, and supporting the sales and production teams throughout the quoting process.

The ideal candidate has experience in sheet metal fabrication, stainless steel foodservice equipment, or custom manufacturing environments, with strong organizational and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Review architectural drawings, bid packages, specifications, and customer requirements
Prepare accurate cost estimates for custom foodservice equipment and sheet metal fabrication projects
Calculate material, labor, fabrication, finishing, freight, and subcontractor costs
Interpret technical drawings, shop drawings, and fabrication details
Work closely with engineering, production, purchasing, and sales teams to develop competitive quotations
Source pricing from suppliers and subcontractors
Maintain estimating databases, labor standards, and costing templates
Follow up on submitted quotations and support project handoff upon award
Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements
Ensure estimates align with company production capabilities and timelines
Participate in project review meetings as required

Qualifications

Minimum 3–5 years of estimating experience in sheet metal fabrication, stainless steel manufacturing, HVAC, or foodservice equipment manufacturing
Strong understanding of fabrication processes including laser cutting, forming, welding, polishing, and assembly
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and estimating/ERP software
Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar drafting software is considered an asset
Strong mathematical and analytical skills
Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
Strong communication and time-management skills
Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously

Preferred Experience

Experience estimating custom stainless steel restaurant or commercial kitchen equipment
Knowledge of foodservice industry standards and fabrication requirements
Familiarity with manufacturing workflows and production scheduling
