Lift Mechanic - Mansfield Ski Club

About the Role:
Mansfield Ski Club is a family-oriented member ski club located in Mansfield, Ontario. We are looking for a full-time, year-round Lift Mechanic to join our Operations team.
This role is responsible for the safe inspection, maintenance, repair, and operation of the Club’s fixed-grip chairlifts, surface lifts, conveyors, and related equipment.
This is a hands-on mechanical role. The successful candidate should expect to work on lift maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, documentation, snowmaking equipment, mountain infrastructure, utility vehicles, equipment maintenance, and capital projects throughout the year.
This position also interacts with members, guests, staff, contractors, and regulators. A professional, positive, and service-focused attitude is important.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal, and annual lift inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Maintain and repair fixed-grip chairlifts, surface lifts, conveyors, and related mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and control systems.
- Inspect and maintain haul ropes, sheaves, grips, terminals, towers, brakes, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and safety devices.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and respond to lift outages.
- Assist with annual maintenance, load testing, nondestructive testing, commissioning, shutdown work, and regulatory inspections.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, maintenance logs, corrective action records, and compliance documentation.
- Support TSSA inspections, audits, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with snowmaking equipment, grooming equipment, conveyors, utility vehicles, buildings, and other mountain infrastructure as required.
- Participate in lift evacuation training and emergency response procedures.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, working at heights, confined space, and Mansfield Ski Club policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance shop.
- Represent Mansfield Ski Club professionally when dealing with members, guests, staff, contractors, inspectors, and suppliers.
What We Are Looking For:
- Experience maintaining industrial mechanical equipment, ski lifts, passenger ropeways, or similar equipment.
- Knowledge of CSA Z98 – Passenger Ropeways and Passenger Conveyors Standard.
- Familiarity with TSSA requirements for passenger ropeways and amusement devices in Ontario.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting experience with:
- Industrial gearboxes
- Hydraulic systems
- Bearings
- Wire rope systems
- Mechanical drives
- Braking systems
- Electric motors and controls
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, hydraulic schematics, electrical diagrams, and manufacturer service manuals.
- Experience with alignment, bearing replacement, rigging, mechanical assembly, and general equipment repair.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to work safely at heights and in all weather conditions.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs / 23 kg and perform physically demanding work.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work professionally around members, guests, staff, and contractors.
Additional Assets:
- Up-to-date SLM-B certification
- Industrial Mechanic / Millwright 433A Certificate of Qualification
- Heavy Equipment Technician or related mechanical trade certification
- Ski resort or aerial ropeway maintenance experience
- Welding and metal fabrication experience
- Industrial electrical troubleshooting experience
- Rope splicing or wire rope inspection experience
- Non-Destructive Testing / NDT familiarity
- Working at Heights certification
- Fall Protection and Elevated Work Platform training
- First Aid / CPR certification
What to Expect:
This is a year-round Operations role. During the operating season, the focus is safe and reliable lift operation, troubleshooting, inspections, and member service. Outside the ski season, the role shifts to annual maintenance, repairs, capital projects, equipment maintenance, snowmaking support, infrastructure work, and preparation for the next season.
The position requires flexibility during the ski season, including weekends, holidays, evenings, and emergency call-ins when required.
