Class 1 Truck Driver – Gravel & Construction Hauling

Role Type: Full-Time

About Wire Construction

Wire Construction Ltd. is a Calgary-based civil construction contractor specializing in earthworks, excavation, underground utilities, site servicing, and related civil construction throughout Calgary and surrounding areas.

We are looking for an experienced Class 1 Truck Driver to join our team. This position will primarily be responsible for hauling gravel, aggregates, soil, and other construction materials between pits, suppliers, disposal facilities, and active construction sites.

The ideal candidate has previous construction hauling experience, understands how to safely operate around active jobsites and heavy equipment, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced civil construction environment.

Responsibilities

Haul gravel, aggregates, sand, soil, clay, and other construction materials to and from active project sites.
Transport excavated and excess materials from project sites to approved disposal locations.
Pick up materials from gravel pits, suppliers, and other facilities as directed.
Operate Class 1 truck and trailer combinations used for construction material hauling.
Safely position trucks for loading by excavators, loaders, and other heavy equipment.
Safely dump and place materials in designated areas on construction sites.
Coordinate with Foremen, Superintendents, Operators, and dispatch to maintain efficient hauling cycles.
Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
Maintain accurate driver logs, load tickets, scale tickets, and other required documentation.
Monitor truck and trailer condition and promptly report maintenance or repair requirements.
Keep trucks and equipment clean, organized, and in good operating condition.
Follow site-specific traffic plans, haul routes, and safety requirements.
Operate safely around workers, pedestrians, equipment, utilities, and other site hazards.
Follow Wire Construction's safety policies and all applicable commercial transportation regulations.
Assist with general trucking, yard, and construction-related duties when required.

Qualifications

Valid Alberta Class 1 Driver's Licence required.
Clean or acceptable driver's abstract.
Previous experience hauling gravel, aggregates, soil, or other construction materials strongly preferred.
Experience working on civil construction, excavation, earthworks, or underground utility projects is an asset.
Experience operating truck and pup, end dump, side dump, belly dump, or similar construction hauling configurations is an asset.
Strong understanding of commercial vehicle inspections and safe loading practices.
Familiarity with Calgary and surrounding area roads, gravel pits, disposal facilities, and construction sites is an asset.
Ability to accurately manage load tickets, scale slips, and daily paperwork.
Comfortable working around excavators, loaders, dozers, and other heavy equipment.
Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate effectively with field crews.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
Ability to work early mornings, extended hours, and occasional weekends depending on project requirements.
