The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Investigation & Support Bureau is seeking a qualified individual to join our Digital Forensics Unit. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will process and forensically image computer technology related evidence for examination by investigators.
Please note: The successful candidate will be expected to work out of 777 Memorial Avenue, Orillia five (5) days a week.

The purpose of this position is to process and forensically image computer technology related evidence for examination by investigators. To develop processes and techniques for extracting and recovering critical investigative data from typical and non-typical electronic devices.
- Valid Ontario Driver's Licence.
- Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial statutes including current case law decisions pertaining to the extraction of electronic data from computer related technology.
- Knowledge of forensic processes, methodologies, mechanisms and techniques as they apply to current and emerging trends in technology.
- Knoweldge of and experience with electronic devices capable of storing and transmitting data, such as hard drives, mobile devices, digital video recorders, gaming consoles.
- Knowledge of and experience with various operating systems, such as Windows, MAC, Linux.
- Knowledge of various file systems, such as FAT32, NTFS, AFS, and communication protocols, such as 802.11, Bluetooth, used in classic and modern electronic devices.
- Knowledge of the inner workings of hard drives, components and firmware, connectivity standards, such as IDE, SATA, SCSI and USB, ESATA, FIREWIRE, NVMe and practical knowledge of electronic circuits as it applies to data storage and transmission.
- Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other software, such as Adobe Acrobat, Snagit, Skype, for generating reports, meetings, presentations, and court disclosure.
- Knowledge and ongoing research in the area of digital forensics and computer sciences.
- Knowledge of protocols, procedures, and best practices relating to security, continuity and handling of evidence as imposed by Digital Forensics, other OPP policies, best practices in the field, and caselaw to ensure the continuity and integrity of the evidence.
- Ability to complete the CompTia A+ certification
- Ability to maintain certification standards for use of imaging tools.
- Ability to attend training as required to remain current on imaging techniques.
- Advanced written communication skills to prepare technical documentation, crown disclosure, and maintain accurate reporting records.
- Advanced oral communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with staff and clients, provide technical support and input, and communicate complex technical information to various groups such as internal and external investigators, Forensic Identification Officers, and members of external law enforcement agencies (e.g. Municipal, Regional).
- The position requires analytical, problem-solving, organization and technical skills to conduct forensic imaging and the extraction of electronic evidentiary data for continued investigation from various computer and mobile technology related devices. An aptitude for computer technology is necessary to keep up to date with changing trends.
- The position requires problem solving when encountering technical issues that would not fall within expected resolution options, such as encountering a non-functional hard drive and determining the best approach to resolve and extract evidence. Furthermore, the position necessitates that proper acquisitions are performed to provide forensically sound evidence to analysts and investigators.
