We are seeking a professional and reliable Charter Coach Bus Driver to safely transport passengers on various routes, charter trips, and emergency passenger transportation assignments. VIA Rail Emergency Passenger Transportation
Our company has a contract with VIA Rail to provide emergency passenger transportation services when required.
In the event of an emergency, service disruption, or other situation where VIA Rail passengers need to be transferred by coach bus to continue their journey, our drivers may be called upon to provide transportation between designated locations.
Typical emergency routes include:
- Ottawa to Toronto – $400 per trip
- Ottawa to Montreal – $200 per trip
Drivers assigned to these trips are expected to respond professionally, operate the coach safely, assist passengers as needed, and work closely with dispatch and other transportation personnel to ensure passengers can continue their journey safely and efficiently.
Emergency assignments may require flexibility in scheduling, including short-notice requests, early morning, evening, weekend, or holiday trips.
Duties
- Safely operate charter and coach buses according to all traffic laws and company policies.
- Transport passengers to designated locations, ensuring safe and timely arrivals and departures.
- Provide transportation services for regular charter trips as well as emergency passenger transfers, including VIA Rail service disruptions.
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking and provide courteous, professional customer service throughout the trip.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, including checking mechanical systems, fluid levels, tires, lights, safety equipment, and other required components.
- Perform routine maintenance checks and promptly report any mechanical or safety issues.
- Maintain the cleanliness and professional appearance of the bus interior and exterior before and after trips.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, passengers, VIA Rail personnel when applicable, and other team members to coordinate schedules and address concerns.
- Follow assigned routes and instructions while adapting to changing road, traffic, and passenger conditions.
- Respond professionally to emergency transportation requests and short-notice assignments.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, commercial driving regulations, hours-of-service requirements, and company policies at all times.
- Maintain a professional and courteous attitude when representing the company with passengers and clients.
Skills & Qualifications
- Valid commercial driver's licence with the appropriate passenger-transport endorsement/class required to operate a coach bus.
- Clean and safe driving record.
- Previous experience operating charter, motor coach, school, transit, or passenger buses is an asset.
- Mechanical knowledge sufficient to perform basic vehicle inspections and identify potential issues.
- Strong communication skills in English for clear interaction with passengers, dispatch, clients, and team members.
- Excellent customer service skills and a professional attitude.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, safety regulations, and best practices for commercial passenger transportation.
- Ability to operate a coach bus smoothly, safely, and responsibly over various routes and road conditions.
- Good physical condition to assist passengers with boarding procedures and perform routine vehicle inspections.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during emergencies, service disruptions, and unexpected situations.
- Flexibility to accept occasional short-notice assignments, including emergency passenger transportation requests.
