Bookkeeper

Part-Time, Permanent Position

(approximately 8-10 hours per week, flexible schedule)

About the Role

We are seeking an organized, detail-oriented Bookkeeper who enjoys working in a collaborative, mission-driven arts environment.

This position is based on-site at the theatre’s administrative office.

The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining the financial records of the organization and ensuring accurate day-to-day accounting operations. Working closely with the Managing Artistic Director, General Manager, and auditors, the Bookkeeper plays an essential role in supporting the financial health of the organization.

This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic not-for-profit environment.

Qualifications & Requirements

· Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or Business Administration, or equivalent experience.

· Minimum three years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.

· Experience working in a not-for-profit organization is considered an asset.

· Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks Online preferred).

· Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.

· Experience with payroll processing and government remittances.

· Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

· High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.

Assets

Experience with any of the following would be considered an asset:

CRA charitable organization reporting

· Grant financial reporting

· Fundraising or donor database reconciliation

· Theatre, arts or cultural organizations

· Seasonal or project-based budgeting

Key Responsibilities

· Process accounts payable and accounts receivable.

· Prepare and process payroll, including source deductions and year-end reporting.

· Prepare and process payments to contractors and vendors.

· Complete bank, credit card, and investment reconciliations.

· Maintain accurate general ledger records.

· Prepare monthly financial reports and supporting documentation.

· Assist with budget tracking and cash flow monitoring.

· Maintain accurate donor financial records.

· Prepare government remittances, including HST, WSIB, and payroll filings.

· Assist in the preparation of annual audit working papers and liaise with external auditors.

· Support grant reporting by providing financial documentation and expense tracking.

· Maintain fixed asset and amortization schedules.

· Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and compliant with applicable legislation and accounting standards.

· Maintain confidential employee and financial information.

· Assist with improving accounting processes and internal controls.

· Provide administrative financial support as required.
