Position Responsibilities

The School of Arts and Education is seeking a Sessional (Term-Certain, 8.5 Month) Instructor with expertise in Painting, Drawing, and 2D Fundamentals (e.g. colour theory, line, perspective).

The successful candidate will be able to teach the following 6 courses on campus in Red Deer, Alberta:

Fall 2026

ART 1241/ART 1243: Drawing I and II

ART 1251: Painting I

ART 2351/2353: Drawing II and III with supervision of Independent Studies 3rd Year Students embedded in the course.

Winter 2027:

ART 1231: 2D Visual Fundamentals

ART 1251: Painting I

ART 2351/2353: Drawing II and III with supervision of Independent Studies 3rd Year Students embedded in the course.

Visual Art Faculty in the School of Arts and Education typically teach 6 studio courses (3 studio courses per term). The schedule for 2026-2027 is finalized and cannot be changed.

Faculty in Visual Art primarily teach on campus. This position requires a regular on-campus presence.

We seek to recruit individuals who can enhance the diversity of our team, enrich the learning experience of our students, and contribute to our dynamic artistic environment.

The ideal candidate will be able to teach the scheduled courses, building upon the tradition of excellence in painting, drawing, and 2D Fundamentals at RDP, while bringing innovative approaches and perspectives to the discipline. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about engaging with the campus community and contributing to the cultural vitality of Red Deer.

Please note, depending on the applicant pool, the position may be offered as Part-Time to multiple applicants.

Red Deer Polytechnic offers a comprehensive benefits package including Alberta Blue Cross extended health and dental plans, and health spending account. There is a tuition waiver for RDP credit courses for you as well as your immediate family members, as well as opportunities for professional development funding. The Local Authorities Pension Plan is also offered as an option to those who have served a waiting period. There is paid time off due to Institution closures between Christmas and New Year general holidays. This position also offers an additional 8% of the regular salary in lieu of vacation.
