Full job description

At TCL Supply Chain, the Maintenance team recognizes that food safety starts with reliable engineering, precise temperature control, and sanitary equipment. We are committed to embedding Food Safety standards into our daily management of ammonia refrigeration systems, forklift maintenance, and all facility assets. By maximizing equipment utilization and up time, we ensure Operations always have the necessary, fully functional equipment to do their jobs safely and efficiently. Using our CMMS, we strictly track, schedule, and measure preventative maintenance to eliminate contamination risks and temperature abuse. We demand this same high standard through rigorous vendor management. Through continuous improvement, our technicians and contractors perform all duties in strict accordance with Food Safety Policies, applicable legislation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure the safe operation of an ammonia refrigeration system.
Responsible for ensuring daily checks on refrigeration equipment are complete.
Responsible for the general maintenance, security, and grounds of the facility.
Perform maintenance activities such as door repair, floor repairs, welding, and refrigeration knowledge to designated standards.
Coordinate general sanitation, housekeeping, and cleaning operations.
Safe operation of materials handling equipment and tools within the warehouse.
Develop preventative maintenance programs along with programs to respond to unexpected or emergency situations.
Oversee the preventative maintenance programs to minimize disruptions in warehouse operations.
Monitor and adjust equipment to lower utility costs.
Make recommendations on programs and equipment to improve efficiency and meet ongoing customer requirements.
Provide unrestricted access and assistance to all regulating authorities in respect to systems and equipment.
Operate in compliance with standard operating procedures and occupational safety policies.
Tour the warehouse on a regular basis to ensure equipment and building is safe and supports warehouse activities.
Maintain facility, safety and sanitation as priorities of the utmost importance.
Manage and aid in training of all facility maintenance staff.
Administer contracts and manage external vendors for specialized supplies and services.
Plan, project, and actively manage the facility’s annual maintenance budget.
Conduct performance reviews and build career development plans for direct reports.
Remain effective, accurate, and efficient in all areas of maintenance duties.
Operation of various warehouse management technology, including CMMS and Info-Link.
Complete additional duties as assigned.
The role requires daily, in-person attendance, to support team collaboration and operational needs.

Qualifications

Minimum; 2-4 years’ experience in an ammonia refrigeration operation
4th Class Power Engineer, Millwright, electrical, Mechanical and/or welding experience is an asset;
Knowledge of appropriate safety and health regulations and ABSA
Knowledge of creating and managing department operating budgets and capital proposals
Demonstrated ability to use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems
Experience implementing and directing predictive and preventive maintenance PM programs rather than just reactive repairs
Experience overseeing facility upgrades and managing external vendor/contractor relationships
Must be willing to work flexible shifts as required. And respond to afterhours call outs
Ability to work effectively under pressure while adhering to policies and procedures
Knowledge of proper maintenance quality standards and procedures, storage temperature requirements of perishable/frozen products
Fully able to operate MHE such as pallet jacks and lift trucks, power tools.
To demonstrate competency applicants will be required to complete an interview process.
