JANITOR / CUSTODIAN — MUNICIPAL FACILITIES
Location: Sturgeon County, Alberta (north of Edmonton, Morinville area)
ABOUT THE ROLE
We provide janitorial services to municipal facilities in Sturgeon County, and we're building the crew. You'll be cleaning public buildings the community uses every day, so the standard is visible and it matters.
You will always work with at least one other person — we keep a minimum of two staff on site at all times. You'll also work under a documented work-alone policy and communications plan, so you check in, you're accounted for, and someone knows where you are for the whole shift.
Candidates living in or near Sturgeon County are strongly preferred.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Sweep, dust mop, damp mop, scrub and buff hard floors; vacuum and spot clean carpets
- Clean and sanitize washrooms — fixtures, partitions, mirrors, floors — and restock all consumables
- Empty waste and recycling, replace liners, move material to collection points
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces: door handles, push plates, light switches, railings, counters
- Clean entrances, glass, interior windows, mats and entry areas
- Clean lunchrooms, kitchenettes and staff areas including appliances and sinks
- Dust and wipe furniture, ledges, sills, vents and fixtures on a scheduled rotation
- Periodic work on schedule: floor stripping and refinishing, carpet extraction, high dusting
- Report maintenance issues, damage, safety hazards and supply shortages to your supervisor
- Follow the site cleaning schedule and complete daily task and sign-off records
- Secure the building at end of shift — lights, doors and alarms as instructed
WORKING ALONE AND SAFETY
A minimum of two staff are on site at all times; you will not be scheduled alone. You'll follow our work-alone policy and communications plan whenever you're on County property outside regular business hours, including scheduled check-ins. All work follows the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and our health and safety program. Use the PPE provided, follow WHMIS handling for all cleaning chemicals, and report every incident, near miss and injury the same shift.
WHAT YOU NEED
- Fluent in English — speaking, reading and understanding. Required of all personnel on site as a safety and communications requirement of this contract.
- A valid Alberta driver's licence and reliable transportation
- Current first aid training. If you don't hold it we'll arrange it, but it must be in place before you work unsupervised.
- Emergency response procedures training, and completion of our health and safety program orientation
- Physically able to stand a full shift, bend, lift and push equipment
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work to a schedule without close supervision
- Able to complete written cleaning logs and sign-off sheets accurately
PREFERRED
Municipal or public facility cleaning experience — County, town, school, library, recreation centre or similar. Commercial janitorial experience. WHMIS 2015. Floor care experience with auto scrubbers, burnishers, extractors, stripping and refinishing. Experience working to a documented cleaning specification and passing inspections.
WHAT WE PROVIDE
All cleaning supplies, consumables and equipment. Personal protective equipment. First aid, emergency response and health and safety training where you don't already hold it. A crew — you always work with at least one other person.
