Chef / Lead Chef – La Grotta On Main

La Grotta On Main is looking for a passionate and experienced Chef to join our kitchen team!

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys cooking, takes pride in the quality and presentation of their food, and works well as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have restaurant kitchen experience and be comfortable working in a busy environment.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced chef who is looking to take on a leadership role or grow into a Lead Chef / Main Chef position.

About the Role

As a Chef at La Grotta On Main, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality dishes while working closely with our kitchen and front-of-house teams.

We are looking for someone who is:

Passionate about cooking and the restaurant industry

A strong team player who communicates well with other chefs and kitchen staff

Responsibilities

Prepare and cook menu items according to La Grotta On Main's recipes and standards
Ensure food is consistently prepared with quality, flavour, and presentation in mind
Prepare ingredients and maintain an organized and efficient workstation
Work closely with other chefs and kitchen team members during service
Communicate effectively with the kitchen and front-of-house teams
Assist with food preparation, cooking, plating, and service
Monitor food quality, portion sizes, and presentation
Follow proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen
Monitor inventory and communicate when ingredients or supplies need to be replenished
Help minimize food waste and maintain proper food storage
Follow health and safety regulations and restaurant standards
Assist with menu preparation and daily kitchen operations when required
Support and guide other kitchen team members when needed
Maintain a positive and professional attitude during busy services

Lead Chef Responsibilities

For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity to take on additional leadership responsibilities, including:

Helping oversee daily kitchen operations
Coordinating kitchen staff during service
Ensuring dishes are prepared consistently and efficiently
Supporting training and mentoring of kitchen team members
Maintaining food quality and kitchen standards
Communicating with management regarding kitchen needs, inventory, and staffing
Helping ensure the kitchen runs smoothly during busy periods

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

Previous professional kitchen or restaurant cooking experience
Strong cooking and food preparation skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to follow recipes and maintain consistency
Strong understanding of food safety and kitchen sanitation
Reliable and punctual
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Italian cuisine
Experience working in a high-volume restaurant
Previous Lead Cook experience
Food Handler Certification
Experience supervising or training kitchen staff
Experience with menu development or recipe creation
