Marcon Metalfab is looking for an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our Product Development & Innovation team.
This is not a traditional entry-level consulting role. You will work at the intersection of structural engineering, research and development, physical testing, manufacturing, and commercialization, gaining hands-on experience developing proprietary structural products and systems.
Working alongside experienced engineers, you will contribute to projects from early concepts and analytical models through prototype development, testing, qualification, and ultimately introduction to the market.
Our work includes innovative products for bridges, transportation infrastructure, structural systems, and seismic applications, including bridge bearings, expansion joints, seismic protection devices, and other engineered structural products.

You will work closely with our Lead Engineer, Innovation Centre, and other experienced engineers while collaborating with manufacturing, business development, quality, and engineering teams. As your technical knowledge and experience grow, you will be given increasing responsibility and ownership of engineering and product development work.
What You Will Do
You will support projects throughout the product development process. Depending on the project and your level of experience, your responsibilities will include:
- Support the development of new structural products and systems from early concepts through design, testing, qualification, and commercialization.
- Prepare structural calculations, analytical models, engineering drawings, technical documentation, and design packages under the guidance of senior engineering staff.
- Perform structural analysis and assist with finite element analysis in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including CSA S6, CSA S16, and other relevant North American standards.
- Contribute to the development of bridge components, seismic protection systems, structural devices, bearings, expansion joints, and other engineered products.
- Assist with laboratory, prototype, and field testing, including test planning, instrumentation, data collection, analysis, and documentation of results.
- Use analytical and test results to evaluate product performance and support design improvements.
- Work directly with manufacturing and fabrication teams to understand how engineered products are built and help develop practical, manufacturable solutions.
- Develop calculation tools, design methodologies, technical reports, product documentation, and engineering specifications.
- Support product qualification, certification, approval, and market-entry activities.
- Research materials, technologies, engineering methods, codes, and industry developments relevant to current and future products.
- Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and cross-functional project meetings.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and business development teams to help move products successfully from concept to market.
- Develop your technical knowledge and professional engineering competencies while working toward P.Eng. registration in British Columbia.
What You Will Bring
You are an early-career engineer with strong technical fundamentals who is interested in applying your engineering education to practical, real-world challenges.
You may have gained experience through structural engineering, bridge or infrastructure projects, seismic engineering, research, internships, co-op placements, manufacturing, or university design and testing projects. Direct experience with Marcon's specific product areas is not expected.
More importantly, you are curious, analytical, willing to learn, and interested in understanding not only whether a design works, but how it will be manufactured, tested, improved, and ultimately used in the field.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or a closely related Engineering discipline.
- Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, or eligible for registration.
- Approximately 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience, including applicable co-op, internship, research, or industry experience.
- Strong foundation in structural analysis, mechanics, and engineering design principles.
- Familiarity with structural engineering codes and standards.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prepare clear calculations, technical documentation, and engineering reports.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, manufacturing personnel, and other technical teams.
- Willingness to work in both office and hands-on testing/manufacturing environments.
- Strong interest in research, product development, testing, and innovative engineering solutions.
Strong Assets
The following experience would be valuable, but candidates are not expected to have all of it:
- Co-op, internship, academic, or professional experience in bridge or transportation infrastructure engineering.
- Exposure to seismic design or structural dynamics.
- Familiarity with CSA S6 and/or CSA S16.
- Structural analysis or finite element analysis experience.
- Experience with structural analysis or FEA software.
- University or industry research and development experience.
- Laboratory testing, instrumentation, data acquisition, or prototype development.
- Exposure to steel fabrication, welding, machining, or manufacturing environments.
- Experience developing engineering calculation tools or working with technical data.
- Knowledge of specialized structural components or engineered products.
- Interest in Design for Manufacturing principles.
- Knowledge of North American structural and infrastructure markets.

About the Role
This is a full-time position based in Delta, British Columbia. Some travel within Canada and the United States may be required for testing, customer meetings, project support, and industry activities.
Salary range: $75,000–$90,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
