Full job description

An established automotive dealership within a respected automotive group is seeking an Accountant to join its team. Reporting to the Regional Controller, this position will support accounting operations, maintain accurate financial records, and contribute to timely and compliant financial reporting.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented accounting professional with dealership experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Job Summary

The Accountant is responsible for supporting accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial transactions and reporting. This role works collaboratively with internal stakeholders to resolve issues, maintains financial records, and supports compliance with organizational policies and accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

Perform daily and monthly bank and other balance sheet reconciliations.
Process invoices, purchase orders, accruals, credit card transactions, and payments.
Support tax compliance activities.
Monitor and reconcile accounts receivable.
Administer vehicle sales transactions, credits, inventory, and contracts in transit.
Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and other financial reports.
Partner with dealership departments and external auditors to support financial operations.
Maintain organized accounting records and provide team support as required.

Qualifications

Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation or progress toward CPA is preferred.
3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience within the automotive dealership industry.
Experience working with dealership management systems, ideally CDK.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook.
Knowledge of corporate tax, HST, luxury tax, and related compliance requirements.
Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and reconciliation processes.
Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data, investigate discrepancies, and explain variances.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential information.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
