Qualifications

MINIMAL FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Master’s degree in a related scientific discipline (data science, health information management, computer science, epidemiology, biostatistics, community health sciences etc.).

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in human/medical research is required, which will encapsulate all of the following experiences:
- At least 2 years of professional experience as a REDCap database administrator is required, which includes experience of database management, and project development for regulated clinical research.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in human research. This must include varied experiences and roles such as study coordination, data analysis, regulatory coordination, and data management.

Experience designing REDCap projects is required and essential.
Must have experience writing, improving, and implementing a Data Management Plan for a multinational regulated clinical study.
Must have a high degree of knowledge of University of Manitoba and Centre for Healthcare Innovation & Aurora policies, procedures, and processes.
Experience in the management of clinical research including and not limited to protocol review, regulatory responsibilities, site selection, contracts, budgets, site initiation, recruitment, problem solving, and monitoring required.
Experience working on interventional drug studies required.
Experience with ICH-GCP regulated research is required.
Experience working on a multidisciplinary research team is required.
Working knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and Health Canada guidelines, PHIA and Tri-Council Policy Statement on Research is required.
Must have experience ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Experience with research program development is an asset.
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Expertise in principles and practices of clinical data and databases management is required.
Administrative knowledge of REDCap and working knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) is required.
Proficiency in statistics and working knowledge of programming languages/systems (e.g. SAS, R, SPSS) is required.
Familiarly with data validation methods and data quality monitoring is required.
Good oral and written communication skills and strong analytical skills are required. Must have proven experience presenting data management concepts to stakeholders in a professional research context is required.
Demonstrated time management skills and ability to set priorities, multi-task and work effectively under time-constrains is required.
Must be able to work in complex team environment with researchers, clinicians, and representatives from external agencies, such as government departments is required.
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision is required.
Ability to diagnose and resolve software and system problems is required.
Ability to develop strong interpersonal working relationships is required.
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service is required.
A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.

Key responsibilities

Provides services and expertise to principal investigators, research staff, and all others who seek clinical research data management solutions through CHI.

Acts as a resource to both data coordinating centre team members and research groups. Supports and assists other staff as required.
Leads clinical research database design/development and data management activities.
Consults and provides services to principal investigators, research staff, and all others who seek research data management solutions for clinical research.
Oversees implementation and maintenance of clinical research using REDCap research data management software.
Provides direction to resolve complex data management issues.
Implements REDCap project management processes and account management processes.
Documents clinical research data management processes and solutions, including Data Management Plan and Standard Operating Procedures for clinical research.
Liaises with stakeholders and establishes clinical studies and administrative databases in REDCap, maintains the databases within the secure environment, and provide ongoing technical support.
Ensures quality data is collected by conducting and/or providing support for study monitoring activities.
Maintains a strong understanding of current legal, technological, and legislative frameworks related to clinical research data collection and management.
Responds to REDCap enquiries from the research community and troubleshoots research database issues.
Ensures projects adhere to ICH-GCP guidelines. Develops ICH-GCP compliant projects and reviews the work of junior analysts (IT3) to verify compliance with applicable ICH-GCP standards, providing technical guidance and feedback as required.
In collaboration with the DCC Lead, mentors junior team members, delegates tasks, accepts/rejects work, and coordinates the activities of other data management analysts. Applies a significant level of independent judgment in training and providing guidance on the work of team members.

Provides/training in clinical research data management

Develops and delivers workshops, seminars, and other training events and materials to existing and potential users of clinical research data management software.
Shares information and resources on setting up and maintaining clinical research databases at CHI. Trains new staff members in processes and standards for clinical research data management and oversees the implementation of these standards.

Oversees implementation and maintenance of CHI’s clinical research data management software

Collaboratively works with information technology staff to ensure that REDCap is kept in a condition that meets the security standards and performance requirements for clinical research.
Provides support for clinical research data working groups established by CHI, set agendas, and ensure that meeting minutes are maintained.
Attends and participate in clinical research data user group meetings.

Other

Stays up to date on current developments in clinical research data management software and applications.
Investigates software solutions for development and maintenance of electronic databases.
Ensures that CHI staff have up to date information about CHI’s clinical research data management activities.
May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
