Job Description

Kitchen Helper Responsibilities

Assist cooks and kitchen staff with basic food preparation, including washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning ingredients.
Prepare simple food items as directed by supervisors and kitchen staff.
Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment promptly and efficiently.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen work areas, food preparation surfaces, storage areas, and equipment.
Sweep, mop, and sanitize floors and remove garbage and recycling throughout each shift.
Receive, unpack, label, rotate, and properly store food and supply deliveries following FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
Monitor inventory levels and advise management of shortages or damaged products.
Ensure all food products are handled, stored, and transported safely according to food safety standards.
Assist with stocking and organizing kitchen supplies, dry storage, coolers, and freezers.
Support opening and closing kitchen duties as assigned.
Follow all workplace health, safety, sanitation, and company policies and procedures.
Work cooperatively with kitchen and front-of-house team members to maintain efficient operations.
Maintain a friendly, professional, and respectful attitude toward guests, co-workers, and management.
Respond promptly to supervisor instructions and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
Help ensure a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment at all times.
Perform other related duties as reasonably assigned by management.

Skills & Qualifications

Previous kitchen, food service, janitorial, or hospitality experience is an asset but not required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
Ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
Able to frequently lift and carry up to 50 lb.
Comfortable standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.
Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as required.
Consistently reliable, punctual, and ready to work each scheduled shift.
Willingness to learn new skills and accept feedback.
Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
Team-first mindset.
Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming workplace.

Required Certifications

Food Handlers Certificate (required or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe)
WHMIS Certification
Standard First Aid (or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe)

A Criminal Record Check is required. Please provide a copy with your resume or be prepared to obtain one upon request.

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
